Hi!
I'm Kate, devout human follower of Sophie and Mowgli. I was directed to this site earlier this evening.
On June 3rd, there was an accident in my apartment. The ceiling in my closet caved in, and the weight of the ceiling falling collapsed the shelves at the top of my closet. The entire thing fell in--including boxes of books, etc, that I had stored.
Unfortunately, my two beloved ferrets were sleeping in the closet and both were injured. Mowgli escaped with bangs, scrapes and bruises and a hurt foot. Sophie almost died. She had to have emergency surgery to remove a ruptured spleen and had kidney damage. She was at the vets office for a week, and was finally sent home on sub-qs and fluid monitoring.
She is doing well now, but still not 100%. At her last follow up, our vet recommended I look into at least partially feeding her mice. He said without a spleen, her immune system is going to be compromised and that she might do well on a more biologically appropriate food source.
So I'm gathering info and trying to figure out what to do next. My Mowgli is a good boy who will eat anything that isn't nailed down. Sophie is a princess. She won't even eat kibble that is broken. I don't have the space/supplies/funds to start a feeder mouse colony at the moment, and have been looking into pricing on frozen mice and where in the area I might be able to get them.
So hi all!
