1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
My mom breeds yorkies, and was a dog groomer. She frequently added in a raw diet to help with her show dogs' coats, muscle, and teeth. I learned about it for ferrets when i first began researching them about 2 years ago.
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I definitely want to get Monday (and any future ferrets) to a complete raw diet. As far as whole prey goes, i will NOT feed rats as i own a few as pets, but since my mom and i have raised snakes and dragons i am ok with mice. Live? Maybe eventually. Frozen? That i can do.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
I have seen what a raw diet can do for a ferret in general. Healthier, better body, better coat, more active, etc. While i want this for Monday, i also want to one day show her, and i am not going get very far on a kibble diet. Plus, she's chunky with kibble.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switching your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as committed. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
I am completely willing to go through any time it takes to get my picky eater to a raw diet. Yes i will commit.
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight?
I have one ferret.
Monday
10 months old
Female
No health problems that i know of.
I don't have a scale, but considering the amount of pure pudge she has, i'd consider her overweight for her size and age.
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
She is currently on a diet formed by her last owner. I.e. a mix of Marshall's dry kibble, and a Walmart ferret kibble.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
I''ve tried feeding her raw chicken, ground beef, and steak, as well as cooked steak. She hates it all. She gags and retches when i get it in her mouth.
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
Hmmm, i'm 19, female, grew up in a grooming business and a mini zoo. I've owned various animals from dogs and cats to rats, snakes, bearded dragons, leopard geckos, day geckos, frogs, millipedes, various birds, rabbits, fish, axolotles, turtles, and many many other critters. It was a fun place to grow up. I currently own a cat named Crook, and four female rats named Army Dizzy Butternut and Momo, and now my first ferret. I am in school for veterinary and hope to one day have my own wildlife refuge (primarily wolves). I also draw.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
I have 24/7 access
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
