Out of my two ferrets, Boogie is the more people-pleasing type. I swear he thinks he's a small dog! He also loves going out and meeting people and I think it'd be cool if he could be like a fuzzy ambassador and teach people that ferrets aren't all mean and stinky. xD
But....he's deaf. I'm been thinking of teaching him the cues in sign language but do they need the vocal cues, too? My dogs mainly rely on hand signals but I'm not sure if fuzzies are the same.

My deafies all no certain hand signals. Such as "No", "Come"(that one they listen to when they feel like it ). I've kept them simple, and yes, I alwyays say the word with it, but that's more for me, not them!

I totally agree with Sherrylynne the vocal part is just for your satisfaction. The other day I was yelling as Fun-Go, my son remarked about screaming at a deaf ferret....I told him it made me feel better I use lights to get their attention. I just flash the room light, it usually brings them running (hearing ones too for that matter ) ciao

Well right now Boogie comes when I start flailing my arms to get his attention. I think he's a bit hard of seeing...or he just likes to see me look like an idiot. I do like the light idea, though.
I'm gonna try and see if I can get him to stand since that seems like a simple enough command. A lick of Ferretone will probably make him do anything. Funny how he used to hate it and now it's the best thing in the world!

I trained my deaf ferret to do tricks with hand signals. I motion in a circle with my finger and Dipsy rolls over, and I tap the hoop and he jumps through the hoop. I make a "come" motion with my hand to get him to come to me. A good thing about being deaf is that he's not afraid of noise- like when my yelling screaming nephews are over, he plays so calmly with them because he can't hear them!

The lights can really come in handy!!!! Murtagh slipped under the kitchen sink one time, I got a flashlight and flicked it a couple of times and he came flying out. I started that because of Izzy (my deafie) and this forum. It reminds me of that movie Mighty Joe Young
