This is humorous, and it's fun to do even if your kids eat whole prey!!!
It's actually a great great for prepping your ferrets for raw meaty bones and whole prey. The fake chick is WONDERFUL for chewers that like N-bones, etc.
Fake chick recipe
---------------------
1. get a raw chicken breast (whole or half, preferably with skin) that has that large bit of cartilage at extends beyond the breast bone.
2. cut aound the cartilage leaving some meat and sin attached to the cartilage
3. cut the cartilage off the chicken breast where it attaches to the bone.
4. roll the meaty cartilage "bone" a coating such as crumbled freeze-fried liver, ground egg-shell, ground kibble. Pdry Pingford's Porridge, crumbled Pogos mouse treats, etc!
Fake cow/piglet/lamb/rabbit recipe
-----------------------------------------------------
1.slice a thin (1/4 inch) slice of meat about the size of the palm of your hand.
2.Pound the meat thinnner (without making holes in it!)
3. Place a mall amount of organ meat (whole or chopped) or fat in the center of the meat slice
4. a couple drops of salmon oil
. Roll up the meat slice overlapping the two ends that meet.
5. here's the tricky part.., you'll need to use a small wing bone to secure the roll. using a SHARP, SMALL knife, cut slits in both layers of overlapped meat. thread the wing bone through the slits to "sew" the roll together.
6. coat the meat roll with Pingford's Prorridge, ground kibble, etc.
Thesea are great if frozen and mostly thawed. If you freeze them, put to crumb coating on just before serving. - they hold together longer when the center is partially frozen. This gives your ferret a great enrichment that helps him learn to sucesfully tear apart larger food items (and succeed!)
