Im switching my cats to moist food before I try to switch them to raw. What are the best brands of canned cat food? How much do I feed them every day? Ty is 30 pounds and I want him to lose weight. Neko is 12 pounds.

Anything that's grain and corn free that lists meats as the first ingredients. I use Wellness Core canned for my cats. Blue Wilderness, Natural Balance, Taste of the Wild, Solid Gold, and Merrick are also good choices. You may want to check out the ingredients because I don't know if those are all completely grain free but I know Wellness Core is. Don't confuse it with Wellness which is not grain free. Same goes for Blue Wilderness which is grain free while Blue Buffalo is not.
I feed twice a day and usually let them each as much as they want in one sitting. If your cats are total pigs you can restrict them to the amount recommended on the can and then modify from there for their individual needs.

You mentioned that your fellow was already eating moist. If you're planning to feed raw, just feed him that (especially if he really likes it). I had a 12 yr old siamese, that the vet put a death sentence on. His brother had just passed on due to diabetes and Samurai was very ill. The vet gave him about 6 months, she maintained kidney failure. As she was leaving she turned to me and stated that back when she first started being a vet, cats lived to be in their late teens early twenties but they didn't do that any more. Cats are old now at 7. I asked her why...."off the record, it's all about diet" When I pushed, she stated that vets weren't really taught anything about diet, just Hills cat food and she left. I was already researching and had switched my dog....why not the cat . I started asking around, back then it was a rare person who would bother. Kibble was the item because cat stools didn't smell as bad if they ate kibble. Samurai was a kibble addict. Feed moist and then put the raw into the moist....ok So, like you I went out and got the best moist food on the market...hmmmm....old fart wouldn't eat the stuff. Tin after tin I was throwing out. This was a little more difficult than I thought In desperation one night, I went down the grocery isle and picked out about 7 of the tiniest sample tins I could find. Garbage. Crap. He loved it So that was the base for my raw switching. He's been eating raw for over 10 yrs now, it took me a year to do the whole switch...7 months of that was just finding the bloody right moist food . So, if you've already got a moist food that he will eat without complaining....go for it . ciao
