Hello, My name is Lisa. I've been looking online about ferrets for awhile now and am finally getting one Friday. I have a wonderfully puppy, 2 kitties, 2 gerbils, and a fish. I have my vats room that I'm putting my ferret in that he can run around in, which where ever i am, he will be there with me . I'm not real sure about the food yet. The food he is on now at the store is Marshals dry food. And i know thats a not so good food for them by the research I've done. I would like to know some better kind of food. I don't know if i could do Raw foods. I would maybe like to do half dry and maybe half wet but not sure yet.

Hi and welcome to the forum! Congrats on the incoming fuzzer! You understand that pictures will be mandatory. You are very right that Marshall's is a terrible brand of ferret food, and I recommend switching as soon as you can. What is it about raw that you are unsure of? Perhaps we can answer some questions for you to help you decide. I didn't intend to do raw when I first cam here either, but after a LOT of reading and talking to people I decided to go raw, and I am really glad that I did. I know it isn't for everyone though. Perhaps you should try freeze dried raw. It can be pretty expensive I think, but not unreasonable, and offers most of the same health benefits as feeding regular raw. There are a few decent kibbles out there but I can't tell you much on that end as I switched Koda immediately and never fed raw. I think some common ones are Evo (which was just bought out so not sure on the status of that), 8-1 Ultimate, and Innova...

Hi, Lisa, and welcome to Holistic Ferrets Congrats on the newest member of your familY! Ferrets really are a blast, and a lot of work. If you choose to feed a kibble, please try to find a grain free variety. They are obligate carnivores, and quite literally don't process fruits/veg's like we do. It only winds up in the litter box pretty much the same as it went in. Is there any particular reason you don't feel you would be able to feed meat to your ferret?

Hi and welcome Lisa Friday...that's getting close....Do you know anything about this little one? Colour, gender, age? Inquiring minds want to know Please feel free to prowl the site, read threads, check out the archives and most of all ask questions. Everyone's friendly and more than willing to help. Check out our nutritional section, many have started out thinking of only using raw food as a treat or supplement, after seeing the results many jump in with both feet and go with it. Less stools, less smell, gorgeous coats, improved immune system to name a few. It is more difficult (preparation, switching and thought) but well worth the additional effort. I hope that you will post pics of your little one and I hope that I will be seeing you around and hearing about the antics of your newest furchild ciao

Well with the raw food i just am not sure if im able to do it. I mean i don't even know how to start with raw food. I think it just makes me sad doing it . I work at petsmart and see the frozen pinkies and stuff but i guess it just kind of freaks me out thinking my little guy would be eating animals..... And I'm getting a little boy, im nameing him Rascal. He is four months old. And not so sure abut the color, lol. He has a white head and kinda brown body. I'll put his pic up once i get him

You don't have to feed prey to get the benefits. You can just as easily feed frankenprey. That you can get at any supermarket or grocer. As far as not knowing where to start, that was one of the reasons why this forum was created. Check out the nutritional section, read through threads, ask questions. We have a wonderful support system here, there is tons of knowledge. We even have a mentoring program for those who really don't want to make that leap of faith on their own. Are you getting a panda? They're so cute. ciao
