Hi, my name is Ciera (pronounced sigh-ruh) I've been cruising through the forums the past couple days and decided it's time I joined! Right now I have a horse and seven cats. I'm adopting a ferret tomorrow from a family that runs a daycare, and have decided it's time to rehome some of their pets. I'm super excited! I have been researching ferrets on and off for the past few years, and now that it's that time, I've been all over the interwebs like crazy So I've decided that when I win the lottery (which will be soon, I know it!) or I guess just when I have the money, I'm going to get her a FN 142 cage, because it's awesome and huge, and I also plan on looking for a buddy fuzzbutt for her in the near future, so the large cage is obviously called for. I have a huuuuge bedroom, 15ft by 20ft, that she'll have free run of unless I'm gone. I've also decided I want to put her on a raw diet! It just makes sense, and I'm currently trying to get my dad to swap our cats over as well. Anywho, I have a question for you guys, if you wouldn't mind my asking. I went into a holistic petfood store nearby, and they have raw frozen foods. One brand I remember was Rad Cat Raw Diet. Have any of you used this/looked at this, and know if it would be a good choice to use? I'm not sure what she's been eating, the owner said she's on a high protein kibble (which doesn't really help much )

Hi Ciera Welcome to the forum and to the world of rescue Do you have a cage for your little one when you get her? Let's face it the most expensive part of keeping little carpet sharks is neither the initial cost or the cost of the cage....they're expensive little furbrats Please feel free to prowl, read and ask questions. Everyone here is friendly and are very patient and will answer all your questions Check out our nutritional section and read through the various threads. Note that the section is divided up to make it easier to investigate the various components of feeding your furbaby. There is also a section devoted to switching your furbaby by pairing you up with a mentor who will help you switch your little one over to a more natural diet (you have to sign up for a mentor and agree to the terms ). You can also prowl through this section and read the various methods and difficulties encountered by others and the solutions that they used to finally convince their little ones that they weren't trying to poison them I don't know anything about the raw food you're talking about, hopefully others may be able to help you. The easiest way to figure it out though is to read through the ingredients list (there shouldn't be a huge amount of ingredients). If you're still uncertain post the ingredients in a thread in the nutritional section and we will help you go through it so that you will understand what you are looking for We do like photos, so we will expect to see pictures of your new little one Oh, how old is your little one...that too will help figure out how easy a time you will have switching the little soul over to a raw diet. Good luck ciao

Hey Heather Thanks for the welcome! My soon-to-be fuzzbutt recently turned 2. They're giving me everything they've got for her, including her cage. I'm glad she'll be coming with all of her stuff, that way she's not just completely out of her element with absolutely nothing she's familiar with. Here's a link to the food I mentioned: www.radfood.com/productsI am new to the world of ferret rescue, but not to rescuing in general All seven of my kitties were feral cats until my dad and I took them in. Most of them were rescued off of the naval base nearby. We were feeding them and socializing them, but alot of people complained to the high ups and exterminators were hired to capture all of the colonies and put them down Sooo we took in all we could, had 13 cats at one point! We were able to socialize them all and adopt out most, and we ended up keeping four of the base cats. The end of last year we caught two others nearby, and about a month ago I almost ran over a five month old on my way home from the barn, so I pulled over and grabbed him. To everyone else seven cats is alot, but I couldn't imagine our house without every single one

Congrats on the successful rescues, and welcome to the forum I'm glad you've decided to put your newest little carnivore onto a raw diet! And since the cats were originally feral, if you(and your dad) decide to go that route, you likely won't have too much trouble! Unlike MY feline friends By all means, check out the nutritional section, and if you choose to go the mentor route, it shouldn't be too long a wait. And yes- he/she WILL be convinced you are trying to poison them at first , but it normally doesn't take TOO much time to overcome that. There are a ton of suggestions to get to that point. I'm looking forward to hearing more from you, and seeing pics of your newest furkid when you get him/her. Please post pics of the kitties, too!
