Hello! My name is Amy and I've already joined the other forums everythingferret and ferretforum so now I found this one! I'm interested in learning about this form of diet. I don't yet have any fuzzbutts but hope to become a ferrent soon!

Welcome Amy Please feel free to prowl, check out the various sections, read through the threads and ask questions. You will also find some general questions that have already been asked by people researching ferrets. Read through those and see if their questions are similar to your own. Thank you for doing your research first, ferrets aren't an easy furchild and the expenses can be quite high. Most of us on list though are more than willing and find the little sods very rewarding Good luck ciao

Hi Amy! Welcome to the forum Exactly WHY we find these "little sods" so rewarding, some days I really wonder ESPECIALLY when they are getting into my cupboards and trying to pull everything out But yeah- they are. I've found since having ferrets, that although I dearly loved my dogs(RIP), and love my cats to bits, I am now a ferret person! Please, like Heather said, feel free to join in, ask questions, what have you! That's what we are all here for, after all

Thanks for the welcome!! All I can say after kinda going through some of the threads and looking at pictures is WOW-the pictures of the ferts on the raw diet-they are awesome & SOOOO beautiful!! I can see the difference really well!! This will definitely be my route of feeding!! I don't think I could deal with the whole prey thing, but I can deal with raw meat. I am not having any luck at the moment on finding a baby at a shelter (there is 1 near me & haven't gotten a response from them yet) & I have seen 1 listed on craigslist and she's gone already. My plan right now is to get a baby from helenslittlecritters.com....right now its way too hot to have one flown to me, she does fly them for you to get them within 2-3 hours of leaving her, but still we are having scorching temperatures right now!! I would love to have two babies so I am still gonna keep my eyes on craigslist and wait to hear from that shelter as well. So....with that being said the baby I know I'll be getting should be anywhere from 8-12 weeks & from what I've read thus far should be easy to convert. Could you give me an idea of what I should start getting? I know a food processor would be good. Also where I live there aren't many choices of grocery stores...do most of them carry the organs? I mean I mainly shop at Wal-Mart and I honestly have NO idea if they have these things or not. I tried a search for butcher shops near me and there are a couple in Memphis I will try to check out. Any other suggestions would be appreciated!!

At walmart you will find chicken gizzards, they are the Perdue brand and in a yellow, blue and white tub in the chicken part of the meat section. I think they might also sell chicken hearts but I'm not sure, I'll have to check when I go in tomorrow...I shop there too! Welcome to the group! You will find that these little critters will brighten your darkest day with their antics....BUT they will also drive you crazy when things like TV remotes, cell phones, and socks start disappearing... I've read that the younger fuzz are easy to switch to raw, all of mine are older so it took a couple of weeks. Make sure that you ferret proof as these little buggers will chew on just about everything that is dangerous to them...and even after you think you've ferret proofed they will find what you don't want them to find... Ferret Math is a wonderful thing...but watch out they add up fast! I went from having 2 ferrets last year and now have 8!

Best suggestion I can give is to pick up "Ferrets for Dummies" 2nd edition. Call it a "ferret bible" of sorts Read it from cover to cover- it has a TON of good info!
