Hi, all. I am a Kentuckian, and still relatively new to being a ferrent. We have had Fiddler and Shiloh for four months, Oz for three, and Hiro for about a week. Shiloh and fidder are about 8 months, Oz about six months, and Hiro about three months. He is still quite small. However, being new to having them does not mean that I am not obsessively attentive. I care about my ferrets more than most people can understand, though my husband is right there with me on the ferret loving boat. These guys mean the world to us both. So, it is only natural that we want the best for them in all aspects, food included.
I'm here to pick up some advice about the raw diet, which I will be documenting in other posts. I just want to make sure that what I am doing is right for them-that I'm getting enough of everything they need through a raw diet. Thank you in advance for everything; I've heard many good things about this place.

Hi, and welcome! And we ALL know what you mean by the "ferret loving boat" Please, feel free to browse, ask questions. You might want to sign up for a mentor in the nutrition section, or simply start your own thread in the newbie section there! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your little ones. Ferret math does happen pretty quickly at times, doesn't it?

Congrats on the weight loss - keep it up! FYI this may (or may not) be helpful to you. My bf's house has stairs that Koda is not allowed up (so naturally he REALLY wants up them). We have a game where he is on his leash (so I can keep him from darting into bedrooms he isn't supposed to be in) and runs up the stairs and I chase him to the top. Then I grab him and run back down the stairs, set him down, and repeat. That way I am running up and down stairs getting exercise AND exercising/playing with Koda at the same time! You could do the same if you have stairs, and maybe use a teaser in front or behind you and run up and down with them chasing you. The only thing is that, if you have bad knees like I do then the stair running has a time limit before joints start to complain...

I did something like that with my Vincent. He was a real "squish" Except being older than most of you here, I was lazy and stood on the middle step, and just used a teaser he fell in love with! Up the stairs, and down the stairs, up the stairs, and down the stairs....etc Ferret lost the weight really quickly- me...not so much
