There is a 125 gallon aquarium complete with lid for $100 on CL. I was wondering if this would be suitable to make a BIG dig box, and fill it with sand or something else to let them go nuts? Or leave it empty and make a big playpen out of it. The metal playpens take about 2 minutes for my 5 babies to figure out how to climb it, so I was looking to make something out of plexiglass... but there's so many aquariams that get dumped because they have a crack in it or it's foggy/discolored and people can't use them. Would this be ferret safe? It is 6ft long 18 wide 23 tall, so hopefully could keep 5 babies entertained for a while. I can't let them free roam in my house just yet, hopefully soon though. In the meantime... would this be a suitable alternative?

I was looking for a plexiglass playpen to MAKE, and I found this before I got the aquarium idea which I imagine would be much cheaper! Has anyone done a similar type of play area, or is this YOURS? Haha! I found this on an Australia ferreting groups website, it looks AWESOME. With 5 ferrets someday this would be a great investment I imagine! Attachments:

The aquarium for a dig box, I think would be fine. But not for holding them for any real length of time as a confinement, simply because of the heat build up with glass. That second one looks really cool as a play area, though! I remember someone on here posted pics of an open top plexiglass enclosure inside the house her father built for her new fuzzbutt, but can't seem to find it. It was a good size, and the ferret could run around and play to her heart's content, quite safely.

They have a 2 floor Critter Nation as their homecage, and I tried using a playpen to keep them confined to the living area while I did things like made dinner, did homework, folded laundry and stuff until they're reading to do free roam. HAH! Yeah they figured that pen out in a couple minutes, so much for that. I'm bringing the cage back and using that money to put towards something they *can't* get out of. The aquarium has a screen top on it I'm sure I could weigh down so they couldn't life off the top, and it's 6 feet of running/dooking space.
Someday I'd love to have a big plexiglass thing to let them dig! Better yet I'd like to move somewhere with a yard, but I'm working on it. About another year!

Wouldn't be good as a playpen, not really much floor space and you'd have to worry about air circulation. I use a old 33 long tank for a dig box for mine, it's only a foot high, I have shredded paper in it, it would be a pain to fill with rice and mine eat those corn starch peanuts. I only used the tank because I had it already and don't trust it to hold water anymore, you could buy a huge rubbermaid tote instead that would be cheaper and easier to clean.
