Hey all,
Does anyone have any good websites with simple recipees on eating nothing but Whole foods? I am trying to change my diet and see if I stop hurting. My back hurts, Hips, Abdomen, Everything aches. I'm also about 213lbs.
If the critters eat natural, So Can I! Anyone have the channel Vera? It's a natural food, medicine, yoga, etc channel that is supper awesome. I've been addicted to learning how to eat better on it.
College is coming soon so bento lunchs are soon to be!
One more thing. Does anyone have the inability to find breakfeast appetizing? I can't seem to really enjoy breakfeast and it's starting to tick me off. You need breakfeast to jump start your system yet I have to force myself to eat it.

Breakfast?!?!? What's that? It seems to be that no matter what I eat for breakfast light heavy or inbetween is still feel crummy and bogged down the rest of the day. My biggest problem is that I don't eveer feel hungy, no hunger pangs...if it wasn't for low blood sugar I probably could go 4 or 5 days without eating. I'm achey everywhere too and depending on the time of the month (ugh!) range between about 210 and 230..that's a huge swing in weight but no one can seem to explain why it's happening. I feel like I eat right but obviously I'm not doing something right! So far I've changed the type of peanut butter from the cheap store brands to Smuckers all Natural there is no additives, high fructose corn syrup or sugars just peanuts and a bit of salt. I've also eliminated red meat and when doing meatloaf or hamburger helper use ground turkey, I also use turkey sausage for breakfasts (when I cook them) and turkey hotdogs. I prefer the Jenny O brand I switched over to 1% milk and will only have milk in my cereal the rest of the day I drink water, water and more water... I average out about 96 oz a day. I've also switched breads...it took me about 2 hours sitting in the bread aisle at walmart but I finally found a bread that was sweetened with honey and brown sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. Nature's Own Honey 7 grain...the kids like it too which is a plus! In general I've eliminated all of the high fructose corn syrup and processed food... I still use hamburger helper but I use ground turkey and add a can of drained and rinsed kidney beans and a bag of frozen mixed veggies adds more fiber and gives us the extra servings of veggies we all need! I use measuring cups when making my plate and instead of a dinner plate I use a salad plate... It's so very fustrating... I need to be healthier for my family because my husband is terminally ill and my kids need me to be there for them if something happens being this weight isn't helping add to the fact that my Dad had his first heart attack at 38 and diabetes runs in my family the odds are stacked against me. I know I need to exercise but d**n it;s been so humid it's almost like you need to shovel the air out of the way just to get moving add my asthma and other lung problems and that's just a recipie for disaster! re-reading this makes it seem like I'm an unhealthy person but my blood pressure is about 105/ 70 on average and so far my blood sugars are good...it's just the weight that 's holding me back! I mean I've never been a skinny person, I've always been very curvy and as my Dad said it best, I had fat in all the right places...it's just now it's spread and won't go back to where it belongs! ugh!

Thank you!
I totally know what you mean. I don't look 213 because everything is in the legs or hip area. Exercising is consisted of cleaning, playing, and going places with freinds. I'm trying to turn my family into natural eaters!!!!
One thing to get away from is cereal for breakfast. You are suppose to have something warm to jump start the system. Plus, 12yrs of eating the stuff gets boring.

I know I should eat somthing warm for breakfast but that requires motivation, and since loosing my job there isn't any... I hate to admit to it but I think I may be a bit depressed...and of course I'm an emotional eater...I eat when I'm upset, tired, angry, happy, bored....so I try to keep the not so good stuff out of the house... you won't find candy, salty snacks or sugary snacks here but when it gets really bad, Walmart is right around the corner Today isn't much better either, I'm stressed about going on vacation (the whole family includeing inlaws is staying in a big cabin in Kentucky) my husband's truck broke this morning and we can't seem to find the parts it needs, and my jeep is in the shop too...add to that one of my cats is sick, she has a uti but upon examination the vet said she felt a mass...no good...Cleo will be 10 in a week and a half....ugh....when it rains it pours! I don't look my weight either, it's in my butt and my boobs...I've got a bit of a gut but that's because I've had three kids by c-section, and that kinda ruins your abs. I really need to get off my heiney and get moving more but the combo of lack of motivation and depression seems to be kicking my butt!

I know I'm a big fruit and vegetable person--it helps that I started gardening too (I control pesticides [which I use none--maybe a dishsoap spray occasionally] and chemicals [occasional dose of fertilizer to the roots]). I am switching from white rice to brown rice (or red/black rice) for certain meals and already make many of my own marinades and sauces.
Breakfast usually winds up being a Mueslix type cereal (lots of whole grains and nuts) with some berries thrown on top. My problem with hot breakfast is until I am awake I can not be trusted to heat anything (I actually broke my coffee carafe one morning trying to make coffee), but I have to eat it or I crash the whole day! I eat oatmeal in the winter and now that I've found a honey and agave nectar I can sweeten with, I plan to get plain oats or cut whole grain hot cereal. I would actually love to go back to my breakfast in Japan: a cup of hot miso soup with nori (seaweed) and tofu, a cup of scrambled eggs, and some green tea or barley tea. I always felt so good after eating it!
I can't talk weight, but there are a lot of weight and sugar issues in my family. I cannot skip meals as my blood sugar really drops (and has since I was about 18). I usually bring a morning snack (usually whole grain or high protein) to keep me from dropping off before lunch.
I may not be the healthiest eater, but I do work to include a lot of whole foods because I enjoy eating them--I think they are delicious. I definitely am looking forward to grad school, though. More walking around and cooking for myself again means I will feel healthier.

I always suggest going to a natural store like Whole Foods and see what you can find, I know when I go into the vegan areas of stores I find a LOT of natural stuff, like Van's Waffles. (which I love) A lot of vegans and stuff are health conscious so that's where you'll find the natural stuff. Eating natural doesn't necessarily mean buying something labled natural, either! It's as simple as getting rid of the box of Kraft Macaroni and Cheese, and cooking whole wheat pasta with actual cheese melted into it instead!
I love the local Farmer's Markets, too. They have everything you could possibly want- fresh carrots, corn, apples, etc.
I lost a lot of weight when watching my meat intake and lost about 20lbs, then when I stopped eating meat, dairy, and eggs altogether in April I lost an additional 26lbs, so I've lost almost 50lbs since February and just got to a "healthy weight" according to the BMI chart last week. I'm not saying you have to go vegan, but things like cheese are HIGH in calories, so watch your intake of stuff like that. A piece of pizza is about 200+ calories depending on the type, but when you eat a pizza LOADED with veggies with no cheese, you're looking at less than 150 calories, and you don't even notice that the cheese is gone.

there is a website that helps you track your calories. I love it! You put in your current weight/height and how many pounds per week you want to lose/gain and it calculates how many calories you should be eating per day. Then you just input the food you ate during the day and it will tell you the breakdown in percent of the fat, sugar, salt, etc. and let you know if you went over your allowed percentage. really jump started me into eating less and eating healthier until I started feeling accomplished only when I ate less than 850 calories a day (not healthy!) it helped me lose about the 5 pounds that I needed gone, so I was happy www.livestrong.com/myplate/#just start cooking for yourself, and look at the "eat this- not that!" articles on yahoo and the articles about resturant food. it's amazing how bad that is for you. stay away from proccessed foods with high sodium and make chicken your first love! go out for a walk after dinner with a pet or a friend and you'll start feeling better about yourself in no time! I recently started 'jogging' (walking, jogging and running) with my roommate's dog and you just feel so exhilerated and accomplished after going even a short distance!

and watch out for college! omg, I BALLOONED when I went to college and gained like 10-15 pounds. cooking for yourself is really hard to do but you need to keep up with it! I have this one chicken recipe. i usually pair it with fresh asparagus and mashed potatoes ingredients: corn flakes skim milk chicken legs or tenders ---- crush up the corn flakes into a fine powder and pour onto a plate de skin and de-fat the chicken legs or chicken tenders dredge them in the milk, then cover with the corn flakes bake 400* for 40 minutes for the legs and 350 for 15 minutes for the tenders. my mom also makes this- baked eggplant parmesan. she just uses seasoned breadcrumbs in place of all the spices you add in later she also uses reduced fat motzerella. www.marthastewart.com/recipe/baked-eggplant-parmesan

You need breakfeast to jump start your system yet I have to force myself to eat it. This isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I think it will help. I HIGHLY recommend these 2 sites to anyone. First is NutritionData: nutritiondata.self.com/ they have the nutrition facts on jsut about any food you can think of. You can look up recipes with that food, save foods, etc, and in your profile you can figure out your BMI and what diet (ie calorie intake and such) is recommended for you. You could find a whole food, look up the nutrition facts on it, and look for recipes. Then, for recipes I use Taste of Home: www.tasteofhome.com/You can look things up by ingredient(s), prep time, healthy, diet specific (ie gluten free), course, etc. You create a recipe box to save your recipes. Let me tell you the recipes in here are THE BEST! Sorry I can't be more help than that. :/ I am a college student too, so my diet is currently pretty crappy. I eat a lot of bagels and coffee. haha

Thanks a bunch for the websites guys! We went on a much needed long weekend vacation and between the snacks and Monsters driving to Kentucky and back, and ALL THE FOOD (we went up for a family reunion and the main goal for the different grandmothers and great aunts was to stuff us till we popped!) I gained like 10-15 lbs!!! OMG!!! The other day I got the Jenny McCarthy exercise program for the Wii, it was on sale for $39.96 at our local WAL-Mart and it uses a camera to track your movements instead of having to hold a remote and or nunchuck...I haven't used it yet but Monday is the first day of school and it will be just me and Abigail... I can't believe that school is starting and that I now have two kids in elementary! Mason (my miracle boy) starts kindergarten and my oldest will be in 5th grade!!! UGH! I feel old.... I have made the first step though, I went to the Dr's last week and had an exam and about a gallon of blood drawn to test my thyroid, hormone levels, diabetes (which I am dreading because it runs in my family) and a slew of other things. I find out on Monday the test results... SO Monday will be a new start for us... walks with Abigail, 2 year old skin kid, the Wii exercise program and some MAJOR house work de-cluttering... keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to stick too it. I NEED to get healthy, my husband is terminally ill and needs a liver transplant, we've been battleing with the insurance companies to get him listed but they don't think he's "sick enough" it's infuriating... so I need to be healthy so I can be there for my kids...if I get sick and DH passes... too much....sorry.... I have to do this for them!

i knooooow this is an old thread and i try not to make that a habit but i feel so much better knowing i'm not the only person who hates breakfast!!!! i have a hard time with sugars..... and most breakfast foods have gobs of sugar. one poptart = me unconscious.. just picture homer simpson with the drool, mouth gaping open.... same thing with milk... and some foods just KILL my stomach. sometimes i get away with a glass of orange juice(with pulp) but.... i dont make plans for the next thirty minutes just in case. I makes me MAD that i have more energy when i skip breakfast! Once in a while, when things get busy around here i'll end up skipping breakfast, and forget all about lunch... and some time around 2pm i'm wondering why the heck i'm light headed and stumbling around like a fool... by that point i'm ready to chew the fender off a new york city taxi cab.... and i know better :/ one book i read years ago is called Eating Right For Your Type, meaning your blood type. i dabble at that diet because..... sorry.... i love my pasta and warm fresh bread.... and tater tots... and fresh corn..... but according to that diet, since i'm a typoe O i shouldnt touch those things with a 10 foot pole. Soda? Forget it. Corn? Thats absolutely insane. bread guarantees i will mess up my thyroid... and i am lucky i'm not lactose intolerant -borderline i think... i do alright on goat milk- Basically, according to this book, i have a primitive blood type. and hunter/gatherers didnt chase down bowls of cereal or hunt glasses of milk. there is even a theory that the reason Vikings didnt settle in North America was because when they met the natives and did a little friendly trading they swapped milk for other supplies.. and the Indians thought they'd been poisoned and chased the invaders off. i dont know if there is ANY truth to that, i've never asked a doctor.... but if milk does to you what its done to me, then yeah.. feels like you've been poisoned! or at the very least, drugged.... dairy knocks me on my butt. and i keep my weight in check by eating those bad foods sparingly... though once in a while i binge.. i try to stay with as basic a menu as i can possibly get. i do about 90% of the cooking and aside from tater tots, nothing is processed. the meat is obviously made OF meat... not pureed paste that has been glued together in the shape of meat.. i make sure to have at least one starch, one veggie and one meat.. but choosing the right one is difficult. all the things that book recommends for my blood type i can only find at foreign markets or certain Greek restaurants. good thing i like Greek food! too bad there isnt one closer by! i do best on seafood and shellfish though.. but thats royally expensive, even if you live in Florida. still, i dont feel guilty for eating buckets of shellfish lol i fear no oyster. my reasons for farming my own food has a lot to do with what i can and cant eat.... eggs and meatwise i'm doing great. but i have yet to master the gardening aspect and i have no idea where to get kale! and millet was always something i gave to my parakeet as a snack as for working out....... my best weight was 114lbs..... but i was working in a factory at the time hauling around heavy material and trying to keep up with production time and supplying workers with material. my husband and i would go hiking every weekend, and every evening i was doing a resistance workout with a rottweiler who had no leash manner... now... four years later.... i'm a marshmallow thankfully i still have good stamina and endurance. just not a lot of opportunities to get out. and i've traded muscle for flab. i did learn a lot from high school health classes though. when working out its important to be aware of the plateau effect and know how to get past it. seems a lot of people get frustrated and quit because of that little monster. me, i'm just plain lazy right now lol i do the bare minimum to stay healthy but i know i could do better. i also know my family genetics and what lies in store for me if i dont stay on the ball lol

hehehehe! Fellow Marshmallows unite!!! Your lucky you still have your stamina and endurance, I have none and it makes me sad because in HS I was an athlete... but since moving down here, kids, husband and his issues, stress and depression...and well, I'm like Jabba the Hut! It's sad when my ferrets and dogs eat better than I do! Though I have made more of an effort to eat a peice of fruit with every meal and if it's canned I buy it in water or juice, no syrup or nonsense like that. Apples are in season so they are realitivly cheap right now so I've been having at least one or two apples a day. I'm in the planning stages of mapping out where my garden will be and what I will try to grow in it. Right now I've been keeping my eye out for free chain link fencing so I can keep the dogs out of the garden area. I've secured a tiller and within the next few weeks I'll start working the dirt (sand) with soil and bunny poo, as I have that readily available for free and I know that the bunny poo I'm getting if from bunnies that are fed antibiotic free food...they get a mix of oats, alfalfa, and sunflower seeds in the morning and at night they get alfalfa cubes...they are getting good food so you know their poo is good!

good deal on the garden! i recommend planting peanuts first, providing there is no allergies. they naturally enrich the soil with nitrogen. i just grew a small crop this summer. harvested them a week ago.... we had a bad drought that lasted all of September the yeild wasnt what it could have been but i wont complain. it was a small plot after all and i managed to fill up a gallon sized freezer bag - with the left overs after boiling and roasting lol - next spring, since my horse's pasture pretty much sucks i'll probably send her to a friend for boarding so i can plow that field...plant in peanuts and see if that improves the quality of what grows out there. before we moved here my grand parents did a LOT of farming in that field... still, i dont bother with workouts.. this hobby farm stuff keeps me on my toes lol its only three acres though..... i WISH we could afford to buy the 15 acres next to us. that is AWESOME hiking territory. not to mention being filled with a variety of wildlife. i've seen bobcat tracks, and one set of bear tracks-ten years ago- and i can hear coyotes singing at night..... you might have guessed i'm a fan of yotes

I'm jealous! I want a hobby farm...hell I'd be happy with an acre in the middle of no where! Right now we're in the city and our lot is 1/4 acre which for this area is big. If I didn't have nosey nasty neighbors I wouls so have some chickens and maybe a pig or two...but we have a nasty old biddy down the street whose in everyones business and has code compliance and the cops on speed dial... grrrrr!
