My two loves are two years old and I've only had them for 2 weeks. They were obviously not taken out often and spent a lot of time together. They would wrestle in their cage and play with each other, but when a human hand entered the mix, they'd run for their lives!
I read some threads with ideas of games to play and such... For the past few days I've been trying new things, like slowing moving a hand towards them, using a stuffed bear instead of my hand, a towel toss, wrestling with them, ruffing them up, EVERYTHING. Although there wasn't just one activity that turned them into playful dorks, they did come around today.
Biggy loves when I through a towel in the air, and Bella (Baby) likes when I chase her with a bear. They are still a little hesitant but they no longer hide. They come back for more, and do their dance, and when they're finished they go find their hidey hole (my box spring=/).
I'm so happy! My furbutts finally recognize me as something/someone to play with.

Congratulations, it looks like progress to me Ferrets really love life and living, they will joyfully accept you into their play once they learn to trust you. Keep loving them, playing with them, they will trust you in time ciao

Ahh this is the best feeling ever!! When I brought my first two babies home, Mia and Marcellus, they wanted nothing to do with me and also only played with one another. NOW, when I walk away from their play pen they all just stare at me with the sadest little look, "Mom! Please play! Please play!" It's awesome to finally make that connection with your fuzzie. You will quickly learn each other their personalities

What I found really odd about my Zeus and Athena was the fact that they were self sufficient with their play. Didn't need anyone else, didn't want anyone else. But after about 4 months of steadily trying to interact with them, they finally came out of their respective shells, and became dancing, dooking, playing fools I mentioned it to one of the people at the rescue, only to find out they'd been switching homes, you guessed it- about every four months! It's like it took a while for them to finally realize they were in their "forever home". Now, I don't honestly know if ferrets can understand any sort of time frame, but you may find that yours come out of themselves a lot more once they have been with you longer than they have been at other places as well.

Yea, they are progressing each day, and slowly learning who the "mommy" of them is, and always will be. They're amazing =)
