I guess God took pity on the clueless fert owner and gave me two good ones. They use the litter box every time, since I showed it to them, unless there are more than about 5 poops in it already. Then they poop on the floor. But as soon as I clean it out, they go in it again. So is that good or what!

Yeah!!! I think mom does a pretty good job of getting them started. Litter box habits can be pretty individual. I've had some that will hit the box EVERY time and others that are hit and miss. My one year old still insists on showing whatever displeasure she may have with me by pooping on the floor in a spot she KNOWS I'll step. Funny, she manages to make it to the box to urinate Gotta love them.

I got lucky to. Inside the cage they are a dream! Outside is a different story although today we had a success with the litter box outside the cage! Woohoo! I need to purchase two more litter boxes and make my computer room ferret proof so these two can have more free roam time. Biting is a different story

My guys are 100% pefect inside the cage. Outside the cage Mizu hits the box 98% of the time (even if he has to go back into his cage to find a clean box. He will also walk into another room to find a litter box!) Sams is great at the box too (98% of the time) Fugue is....doing better. He still goes potty on the paper that we put under the boxes. De......well De is old and she pretty much goes where she wants, inside OR outside the cage

Nikko is so funny. He is really trying to hit the litter. He will walk in the box, sniff, turn around, but then he walk out of the box and backs up, usually missing the box to one side or the other. LOL He's trying, though.

My girls are 100% in the cage and 98 % outside of the cage. They both want to go in the corner where the door hinge and wall meet in the computer room and Rolo loves to go in my room in the air vent but she won't do it in here. She only goes in the air vent when I forgot to put the giant stuffed teddy in front of it.

Well oliver really isn't a normal ferret. Instead of going in a corner like every other ferret he has a favorite wall in the cage that he poops along. The litter box is along his favorite side/wall, but he likes to poop in the corner his litter box is not at. He knows what a litter box is for just he thinks I'm his slave. Outside of the cage........it's a free for all. I won't even go in to detail about it. *shakes head*. Let's just say I have many permanent stains on my carpet.

Chaplin and Lucy play mindgames with me in shifts. They're more organized than I am, they're like a downsized League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
Litter training Chaplin was a cinch, once he and I got a reward-system established, which now leaves me with watching him critically as he phantom-poops in hopes of a bit of fish oil. LUCY, on the other hand...
Lucy will go upside-down in the litter box or while doing a backflip if she's being watched, just glancing her way is enough to send her into throes of glee and she'll do anything to please. If I turn my head for one minute or leave the room, I'm guaranteed to return to the second wave of the Apocolypse in my living room. All meted out by Lucy - we call this process Lucinating.
Lucy poops EVERYWHERE unsupervised - every room has a litter pan, and Chaplin is a little dear, but he makes me chase him so Lucy can be left to poop in my shoes or on the couch or in the kitchen far too often for it to be a coincidence. I smell a conspiracy. If no one hears from me in a week, they got me.
