hello one and all from surrey england we are junction six off the m25 about 30 miles south of london, i'm looking forward to learning from you all as ferret life over here seams to be very different from the states.
i now have five ferrets two females two males and a not sure.. poor little fella was a rescue from rspca he had been living wild, they chopped off his bits (standard proceedure for rescues) and now he doesnt know what to do with himself. he also seems to have stopped growing!
i've been keeping ferrets for three and a half years now my oldest is bandit (f pole cat markings) and then her daughter from last years litter, bob (f cinamon) (short for kate) then the neuterd male furbie(m albino) and now the two boys just arrived last week kujo (m polecat) and oscar (m cinamon) so we have a full set with both ladies now expecting the patter of really tiny feet!
i'm here to learn how to switch my little fuzz balls into lean mean hunting machines before sending them to work.
i have plenty of space so the mice are meat program looks good for me, i'm also just setting out the new housing block so any inspiration regarding favorite toys, activities and such would be appreciated.
ferret life here is very different. ferrets are working animals here they live in cages all year round and go out to hunt rabbits as pest control. they are referred to as a 'northern' pet in a negative way kinda like making reference to the deep south in the states. nets are pegged at the exits to a warren and a ferret is sent in, the rabbits flee and are netted, necked and cooked.
i own ferrets because i always thought them as clever little fellas and have not been wrong so far.
mine are pets first and workers second, my style of treatment training and habitat are inspired by many of the american pet owner books rather than traditional english views. as a result my ferrets have a big contained run in the garden, regular runs around the garden and home and have never bitten my little boys (2.5 and 1.5 yrs) who have been trained to stroke gently, not grab the little fellas
well that all for now you,ll see me on the threads asking loads of questions.
