Hi All. I'm in the process of getting my two boys to eat soupies as a supplement to their kibble. I've been seeing a lot of recipes that call for raw hearts, livers, etc.
I am planning on making a soup with a whole chicken (blended up), some eggshells, a bit of salmon oil, and some organ meats. I know where to get everything but the organs. Do they sell them in the grocery store? Will a whole roaster chicken come with organs? I hate chicken on the bone myself, so I've never purchased a whole chicken before.
Thanks!

Whole chickens sometimes come with their organs, though how they lived with what sometimes comes in there is beyond me....two livers, no hearts....4 gibblets and 2 necks You get the picture I buy my organ meats at the grocery store and through the raw feeding coop that I belong to. Sometimes you can order these from your local butcher too, but that will probably be expensive. ciao

I usually get my chicken hearts and livers from Safeway. I order the hearts by the caselot(yes, they will order them in for you!), and just pick up a few packs of livers at a time. You can also use beef or pork heart/liver, or turkey, or whatever kind you can find!

from my searching it has not been too hard to find beef liver and heart but any others it has been. Yesterday I found a store that had a huge package of chicken gizzards and a small tub of livers and they were only $1.25 for the package and I was able to divide it into 6 meals for the 3 ferrets.
So my advise is look in in many different stores and find one that has them in stock I found mine in a Mexican grocery store here maybe that might be a good place to check? I don't know if they use more organs in their cooking but that's the only place I found any other than beef yet.

Safeway had a tub of chicken livers for around $2 (which I bought). I also saw a big pack of gizzards and a small (but semi-expensive) package of beef liver. No luck finding hearts though. I'm going to try another grocery store tomorrow while everyone is out grilling for memorial day (read: I hate crowded grocery stores).

Just keep in mind, gizzards are a muscle meat, not organ. Same goes for heart.

Grocery stores that have an Asian influence are great for different organs and such.
