Hi! My name is Kirsten, and I've owned ferrets for about 7 years now. I'm really active on Yahoo! Answers, trying to help educate all the pre-teens begging their parents for a ferret... *sigh*
Anyway, I'm from Kentucky (in case you didn't know which was the Bluegrass state!), and I currently attend the University of Kentucky for a bioanthropology degree. That's new to me though, as I was until the beginning of this semester a pre-vet student studying animal science.
I have 5 ferrets currently, and owned 1 other before them, who passed away in December of 2008. Their names are Loki (and BOY does he live up to that name!), Suki, Archie, Bonnie, and Vector. They're all close in age, around two - two-and-a-half years old. I also have an American Foxhound named Seamus, who is also two. They're all rescues. My first ferret was a Marshall's and he passed away at age five from insulinoma. My then-veterinarian seemed to think it was just fine for me to mix in grapes and those stupid yogurt chips into his diet. By the time I learned otherwise, it was too late.
So, on that note, my business is currently on a cat kibble diet, Natural Balance, after poor experiences with other foods (Evo, Natural Gold, Zupreem, Totally Ferret, 8-in-1, and everything else under the sun). They were doing well until recently, now they're back to grinding their teeth and having loose stools. Blah.
That's why I'm here. I'm at my wits' end with kibble, and am convinced a natural diet is in order. I'd like to feed a mix of mice and chicks, but I'm brand-new to all of this, so I'm not entirely sure yet. My fuzzies LOVE their duck soup made with ground whole turkey baby food (single ingredient) and eggs, so I think they will take well to this, perhaps in comparison to other fuzzies who are used to crap kibble all the time...
Sorry for the really long post. I never know when to shut up. :-P
