My dog Oreo, whom I posted about in the Rainbow Bridge section, died suddenly at age seven of a massive, aggressive, untreatable tumor in the middle of her brain, None of the specialists had ever seen such a tumor in a border collie. She was only seven and showed no signs until a month before she died so it was horrible, and despite our best efforts to treat her alternatively/holistically (one of her treatments was the Budwig protocal of flax seed mixed with cottage cheese, important later on) after the vets all gave up, she died in our arms. We got her only 2 days after the dog before her was hit by a car after my (now ex) friend let her out. This is also important later on. We called an animal psycic and were skeptical but desperate. We started to tell tell her we had just lost our beloved dog, and before we even said dog, she interrupted us saying she was fine, and what a beautiful black and white coat she had (she was a border collie) and that she was with a gentleman that wasn't very old, but had salt-and-peppper hair and dark skin (my dog-loving Italian grandfather committed suicide in his forties. he had salt and pepper hair and was so dark his nickname was Blackie) and a medium sized curly black dog with a white T on his chest (my mother's most loved childhood dog from 40 years ago) She proceded to tell us that Oreo had no ordinary tumor. She sacrificed herself for our ferret. Sounds hokey right? Well listen to this-our 6 year old ferret Rascal had adrenal cancer 2 years ago, and was now showing the signs of a recurrance because he went totally pink-butt bald again. He could not have surgery again because of a blood disorder that almost killed him the first time, and we would have had to try Lupron. The vets didn't even want to mess with him until he acted like he was in pain. Our dog considered the ferrets her babies, to the point of having several full blown false pregnancies and trying to nurse them. The day Oreo was diagnosed Rascal had a bit of fuzz, but we weren't sure. The day Oreo died, we went to take Rascal and his sister out to say goodbye to her, and he was COVERED IN HAIR. I mean freaking covered, a whole new baby soft coat. even over his cancer surgery scar. We took him to the vet days later in astonishment. We know ferrets can grow hair back even if they do have the cancer, but the re-growth was just so sudden. They ran tests and he is CANCER-FREE. They had absolutely no explanation.
Remember also, at this point we had not told her ANYTHING. Not even that we had a dog never mind ferrets. She lives in a different state and we have never met her. She also told us that Oreo couldn't wait to be reincarnated to us again, but it would take a few monthes because of how painful the tumor was. "again?" we asked? Why yes, she said. She already did it once, but she came back so quickly as a walk-in spirit the first time because she died such a violent death. At this point our mouths are hanging open, but it made sense because when we got her the second time she immediately attached herself to us, growled when the previous owners tried to say goodbye, would ONLY answer to the name Oreo, even though they had called her Summer, and knew where all her stuff was at home and even knew when I would be getting home from school. She than told us that she wanted to come back as something tiny so she could travel with us (we're about to start traveling frequently for my modeling) and she wanted to come back in October because it was an important month to her. We got her in October. She also said that there was a long line of animals waiting to reincarnate, and a grey and white bird was especially insistant, but they would wait untill we were ready for them. That was Casey, our cockateil from over 10 years ago. She even said that in time, all my pets would continue to come back to me, although the ferrets wanted to come back as something else (makes sense since ferrets are so hard to keep healthy) and my cats and ferrets would have long lives. Right before we hung up, she told us "oh, and by the way, this doesn't make any sense, but she says she'll never, ever eat cottage cheese again" Hows THAT for proving herself? We have called her a few more times to facilitate Oreo's reincarnation once we picked out a breed based on what a ton of vets said would be healthiest (PomChi) and a breeder. She has never charged us and told us Oreo would be recognizable as the only female in the litter with a white stripe down her face since we'll have to send money to put her on hold the day she's born without ever meeting her so no one else has a chance. She's due to be born in like a month and a half if her potential mother is pregnant and I can't wait to at least see a picture, even if I can't pick her up until at least 12 weeks, maybe 16. Even my extremely scientific brain cannot explain away this one. Thoughts, anyone?
