I am 99% positive that Cassi is allergic to beef.
I finally got my hands on some beef kidney to add into her puree, made her a fresh batch tonight. 5% chicken liver, 5% beef kidney. She took about 5 licks of it and puked for about 15 minutes all over the place. One of those awesome "run as fast as you can from one place to another puking at each one" events.
I'm pretty sure it's the beef b/c one of the main ingredients in wysong I is beef, and i've tried to give that to her on several occasions, several different ways and the same thing happens every time. when it touches her tongue, she runs and pukes.
we've been pretty careful with her since her mysterious gatric illness of february/march 2010, but she has been doing FANTASTIC since the switch. we're moving very slowly, she's been on a puree for a long time, but as long as she's eating a balanced raw diet and i'm seeing healthy improvements, i'm happy. she gained her wait back from being sick, her coat is great, she's got more energy... the only common factor is BEEF!!
I've even mixed in pretty significant amounts of pork into her puree to get another meat protein into her diet and she was find with it. But this TINY amount of beef, and not even muscle meat, caused her to get violently ill.
I remade her puree tonight, back to the basics. 6oz thigh meat with skin, 3 chicken hearts, .3 oz chicken liver (around 5%), little more than 1/2 a tbs of ground eggshell. And i mixed in some chicken baby food, like i did at the beginning to make sure she didn't connect the smell to her vomiting. with all the different diets we tried when she got sick, it seemed like the ones that she vomited up she didn't want to try again.
she seems find now, i hand fed her the new batch, she happily took as much as wanted her to off my finger. she was a little sleepy/slow after the puke fit, wandered around for about 10 minutes and then hopped up on the couch and is now asleep in the blanket next to me. So... she's keeping the dinner down.
Anyone else have a similar experience with a specific protein? I know some people have ferrets that can't eat wysong, do they have the same problem with beef?
