We got our 3 ferrets 4 months ago. They were dumped sadly. I come seeking advice and need educated from more than a book but want others experience. honestly I wasn't planning on keeping these little guys but I really fell in love with them. I didn't even know, until a few minutes ago, they ate meat. I came searching for a forum that would help me know how tolive with our ferrets more cageless, but I am a real clean freak and the idea of "#2" against my walls isn't my favorite thot. I am going to go dig around and see post questions as I am full of, but let me tell you about our family of both kids and other: My hubby and I have 8 kids and we all love our furry and feather friends. We are pretty holistic as a whole so I think this is the site for us. We have 8 birds of various kinds 2 rats (wont be ferret food, lol) a chinchilla (almost ferret food one day when my 2 year old introduced him to the ferrets) and our three ferrets: Zipper-whom we call Weasel-5, Granny-8, and otter-1 see you on the forum

I have a very hard time with the thought of getting these guys vaxd because we don't vax our own kids, but ferrets aren't humans (although sometimes...) and I need to care for them differently

Hi, and welcome to the forum That's quite the crew you've got there! I can't wait to see pics of them all. And yes, ferrets are what's called an "obligate carnivore", meaning they get no nutritional benefit from anything that's not meat, bone, or organ. Please feel free to browse around, check out the nutritional section, ask questions! Oh- and by the way, ferrets are very much like toddlers, in that it's play,play,play......gotta go NOW!!! If they don't see a litter box, or paper, they will sometimes back up to the nearest corner. You can help to prevent that by having bedding, etc, in the corners when they are out and about. That- and finding out where they like to go, and putting boxes there

it means you do things as naturally as possible using natural products and take every part of what your doing as a whole. Really we misuse the word. But for the purposes of this forum it means that its done naturally as it would be in nature.

To bad its only like, 20% seeable in this artificial hell I'm forced to live in, constantly having blasphemers say its my "nature" environment! (those 2 words are metaphor) But I would think of a ferret first, in other words, if its just bearly good enough for me, its not good enough for them! I love this forum!

Hi and welcome to the forum Thank you for taking in those little lost furbabies. Please feel free to prowl, read through the various threads and ask questions. Everyone here is friendly and more than willing to help out. Ahhhh....ferrets and litter boxes...these two items can seem at times very far apart You can teach them to be relatively good about it. Litter boxes become part of your decor My guys have their own room and they free roam the house with a special outdoor play area that is entirely theirs. I do use cages but only for a few hours at night or if they're sick and require rest. The rest of the time the two play groups switch out between the house and their room. Nutritionally, yes ferrets are obligate carnivores and require meat to survive. There's a lot of information in our nutritional section photos too, but some are not for the squeamish Read through there and it will give you a really good idea as to what your little ones require to be healthy and happy. If you decide that you want to switch them, we do have a mentoring program that allows you one on one with an experienced raw feeder. At this time we're heavily overbooked but we do get around to everyone so if this is something that you're interested in, put your name in and keep checking in. Please we love photos too, of your little furbabies Good luck, and most of all have fun ciao ciao

Hey! I was the same way... I unexpectedly got a ferret that was in major need of a home and then had to research and educate myself. This website has really helped, plus the Ferrets for Dummies book, and now I own 3!
