Hello! I have two ferrets. They are both about 5 years old and were rescued from the humane society 3 years ago. One is a huge sable male (Crisco) that is showing some signs of adrenal gland disease. The other is a petite red-eyed white female (Zoey) that is deaf and I believe she doesn't have a sense of smell either. I'd like to get them on a better diet. We hope to get our other carnivorous pets (3 dogs, 4 cats) on a raw diet so we'll have plenty of meat to try on them.

Hi Julie, and welcome! I'd love to see some pics of your little ones! I could see the deafness, but not to have a sense of smell would definitely be a real detriment to a ferret. Any particular reason that led you to that conclusion?

Any particular reason that led you to that conclusion? I don't know for sure but when I give her a treat she has a hard time finding it. It's like she knows it's there but can't quite pinpoint its location. Once she finds it she eats it so it isn't a matter of not liking the treats. She doesn't seem to have any vision problems. I guess it could be her sense of taste. Whatever sense she's missing, she adapts for it and eats just fine.

I've got some who do that on a regular basis. For animals who supposedly rely on scent, they sure do miss things a lot . I sometimes have to put the meat right under their noses, and it's like "OH! I didn't know that was there"

Hi Julie! Nice to see another Minnesota person here. I'm in St. Paul. Two cats, two ferrets all on prey model raw. You've found the perfect place to help get your crew on a healthier diet!
