So, Im very jealous of all the nice bedding sets everyone has for their FN. My FN has a bed sheet on the top all bunched up tied to the bars so they dont move it, nothing on the bottom level to cover the pan because I know they will just poop on it, and pillow cases to cover the shelfs. From what Ive seen, the bedding sets are pretty expencive. Well, for me they are. When I get a job (been looking for months, with no luck... finding a part time job when you're under 18 is impossible) and I have some extra money I might get them a "real" bedding set, but for now Im looking into making some on my own. I dont have a sewing machine... so everything would have to be done by hand... I really havent sewn anything before, but Im sure I could figure it out lol. Im going to Wal-mart today, so Im going to look at what kind of fabrics they have and how much they cost... Hopfully its not too much money So.... does anyone have any patterns or advice they can give me on how to go about making this?

Right now I'm using some extra-large flannel baby blankets, and I'm going to be buying some no-pill fleece for their cage. 1yd of no-pill fleece is enough to cover both the top and bottom pans and you don't need to worry about the edges as it doesn't fray.

I just used reg cotton fabric (w a really cute striped pattern) on both sides instead of fleece, bc fleece is difficult to sew. In between the 2 pieces of cotton I used some cotton batting (for quilting) to make it soft. Also, newspaper really helps to make a nice, even pattern. I measured the inside do I would know how big to cut the pattern, but then added an inch on all 4 sides to account for hemming. Instead of using the hooks to hold it down I just cut ribbon and sewed 2 pieces of ribbon to all of the corners and tied bows to the 4 main corners. It turned out really cute! And as nice as those sets are that you can buy online I bet you are more than capable of making some that are just as great if not better...I mean the expensive sets are made by reg people, ya know? Honestly you seem pretty talented and maybe you should save up for a sewing machine instead of bedding? You can get a nice, but cheap, sewing machine at Wal-Mart for under $100. Goodness knows what you could find on eBay or craigslist. It may seem like a lot of money, but if you made more than one set of bedding it would already pay for itself. If you did that you could whip out lots of different types of bedding!! I just finished my second set and I got the fabric on sale at hobby lobby... so both sets ended up being cheaper than buying it. While my first set didn't turn out as nice, I def improved with the 2nd. It looks professional if I do say so myself . Now I am making a matching cage cover! Lemme know how it goes!
