I give my girls NUPRO all natural ferret supplement sprinkled on their food every day. And as a gravy treat a few times a week. and N BONES when i have them 1 each every day. sometimes i cut them up in little peices and give as tiny treats or i will break them in half and give at the beginning of the day and at the end. (They hate me for not having their N BONES avaible for them right now and are cussing me)

I give nbones maybe like 1 every 3 days or so. I haven't gone out and got them mealworms which will be their treats. I also like to sprinkle AFS Freeze-Dried Majestic Sprinkles-Carnivore Diet 6 oz. Pocus likes em but hocus doesn't. Hocus is a straight up raw meat baby.

Personally I dont feed N-bones, I feel like there are better things out there (like raw chicken necks ) but I am pretty strict about my furbabies diet. They only get natural foods. As for nupro, I know some people use it, but I dont. I dont see the need to supplement if you are feeding a well rounded diet. What is in nupro, by the way?

Norwegian kelp, flaxseed, nutritional yeast culture, desiccated liver, bee pollen, garlic concentrate, calcium citrate, lecithin, lactobacillus acidophilus. The garlic concentrate makes them unappealing to pests and the flaxseed wards off cancer.

More about the ingredients and what they are in there to do can be found at www.nuprosupplements.com/ingredients.htm (ingredients between the dog and ferret supplement are no different) Reading the ingredients has made me personally not want to give it to any ferrets I may own in the future. I don't think they have any use for the seeds and kelp, not like they'd be running around eating seeds and kelp for their nutritional benefits in the wild. I'm not sure if they'd be able to enjoy the benefits of flaxseed if they can't properly digest it. The garlic, while potentially warding off pests, is still up in the air about being potentially harmful even to the dogs this was originally made for let alone much smaller ferrets. The fact that it is a garlic concentrate seems even more worrying to me. Liver and calcium is something they would be getting with a raw or kibble supplemented by raw diet. I'm not sure what is with the bee pollen, I'm a little skeptical about them -needing- something they'd probably never encounter in supplement quantities in the wild. I'm skeptical about that doing any good in humans either, lol! Also, honestly, introducing yeast and acidophilus to an otherwise biologically stable ferret or any other animal could actually potentially cause more problems than it solves in a digestive system, immune system, etc, the same way introducing those sorts of things to people can cause problems too. It all depends on the balance of body chemistry already in the animal or person. If eating well and properly the body chemistry and all it's own happy little organisms should be well balanced enough already to take care of the things these additions are supposed to. Just my long winded noob reasoning, lol!

We don't feed Nbones or Nupro.. I personally think that nbones are junk food which the ferret gets nothing out of eating. My treat of choice is freeze dried chicken or beef, or maybe even some turkey jerky (For dogs, because obviously people jerky is going to be salty). My babies LOVE the freeze dried meats. As for the Nupro, I personally wouldn't give it because our ferrets diet is 100% balanced. They can't really use 99% of it. Tako, I'm just going to assume the bee pollen is to ward of allergies. There are plenty of people who take it, some people give it to their pets as well. www.treehugger.com/files/2008/05/bee-pollen-cures-allergies.php-~Ketlin

Tako, I'm just going to assume the bee pollen is to ward of allergies. Yup, I know the theory in why it's taken, but I've never had it work wonders on me or anyone I've personally known to take it, so I remain skeptical, lol.

I don't feed NUPRO, don't really know what it is either, for a supplement I feed Ferrevite for nail clipping/ear cleaning time, and also with Vaseline for shedding times. And then the AFS Sprinkles (doesn't really care for) and salmon and olive oil. I bought the flaxseed for him until I read all the benefits, now I'm using it. Oh, and with the salmon oil, the poops don't really smell that bad IMO. And his fur is luxurious! I just bought N Bones because he doesn't want to chew on the bones anymore since his new diet. I hope he likes them, they're pretty cheap so that would be great. We'll see when I get the next ferret, hopefully he will like Apple's diet too!

Am not familiar with Nupro supplement, but like others are wary of feeding ferrets something they might likely avoid or never encounter, much less digest in the wild.
Garliccan produce anemia, flax seed is a plant item therefor indigestible. Bee pollen? reported to be nature's miracle of all sorts of micronutrients, might possibly get ingested if the ferret just trapsed through a flower bed or clover fiels and then groomed himself- so maybe,JUST ,aybe thatmight offer SOMEthing.
I'd pass on the Nupro.
I've also stopped giving N Bones even though they ALL like them, mainly because of their ingredients: Soy Protein Concentrate, Gelatin, Wheat Gluten, Rosemary, Ginger, Chicken Meal
Soy protein is likely not a bioavailable protein for ferrets because it isn't from a meat source. ALso soy proteins have been found to increase aggressiveness - something I don't want in a ferret (especially Roman).
Gelatin has no nutritional purpose and again is likely from a plant source.
Wheat gluten is definitely a plant product and also one that has been linked to hyperactivity and autism in people.I'll pass on the off chance it has the same reaction in ferrets.
Rosemary and Ginger again are plant products - indigestible for ferrets, socan offer no benefits.
Chicken meal- why give them a stick of gooey, indigestible chicken meal enhanced with spices and herbs they still can't digest - when a REAL chcken bone or cornish game hen bone is athousand times better for them?
N -bone's claim that these teeny sticks offer teeth cleaning properties is a joke! - it's about as healthy for your ferret's teeth as offering a kid a stick of rock candy to clean their teeth with!
Nope- I'll pass on the N-bones even if my ferrets want them. I have to be the "mommy" here and only allow them what is best for them.
Cheers, kim

I know they ingredients aren't as great as they claim to be but or now until they get onto bone I am going to let them have some. Since I have stopped giving it to them because I just ran out a few weeks ago Loki's very back teeth have plaque buildup again and they were sparkly white while she was eating them and before i first gave them to her she had plaque buildup so they do help clean my girls teeth. I will try to make that natural N-BONE recipe that was posted in another thread.
