I was thinking about purchasing a pet stroller for my ferrets. Would you guys recommend it? Are they safe for ferrets?

I checked out some here, a year or so ago and decided against it. There are different ones out there so you may do well to shop around. The two different ones that I checked out would not safely confine a ferret. The seems are open, allowing for gaps large enough for a ferret to get through and also advised to not to use with kittens. The other also had gaps and the meshing wasn't strong enough to withstand an onslaught of ferret claws. JMO of course and I'm sure there are other brands that are available but be very careful and I would ask to see it assembled, remember they're not made for ferret . ciao

I have a stroller for my 4 brats. They LOVE it. I had to "ferret proof" it against escape by sewing thick nylon patches on the inside to cover all of the "cracks" in the stroller compartment. There's only one place they can get in and out now - that's the zippered entrace. I have to secure the zipper as well since the brat can open any zippers (yes, even from the inside). I cannot leave the brats unatended in the stroller since I know they WILL rip through the mesh if they v tie to work o it. I cannot use soft carriers since the rip out of them. But, the brats a very happy in the stroller - all four line up to look out the "front window". They look so cute with their little butts lined up inside. So, as long as I'm there to supervise, the stroller is safe. We do not have a lot of mosquitos in Colorado (dry climate with lots of sun). But we do get a few after the sun gets low. So, I don't use heart worm meds...the risk from the chemicals is greater than the risk of heart worm since I'm VERY careful about when the brats get out. The stroller allows an outdoor excursion once the sun gets lower. It keeps the mosquitos off of them since the mesh on my stroller is tight with small holes - and VERY strong/sturdy. So, if you shop carefully, ferret-proof the stoller, and are willing to supervise your ferrets in the stoller, the stroller can be a good investment for times when you otherwise may not be ble to take yor ferts outdoors. Also, you need to be careful of the heat/excessive sun....ferts overheat VERY easily...especially older ferts. I got my stroller used on ebay - somebody got it for their dog and their dog hated it - The stroller was one of those expensive jeep strollers - big enough for 4 good-sized brats and a good-sized potty box - what a steal!!!! -jennfer

That was a fantastic find Yes, I thought about what you've done after I posted. I thought you might be able to ferret proof but as I hadn't attempted it I didn't want someone to invest in one of these strollers (they can be pricey) and then have the discover all the little holes that there are and not be able to fix them. I'm glad that you've been able to work around this. I think my guys would love to travel that way. ciao

I like it a lot because the brats are inside the stroller...I can take all 4 out at once instead of one each day. My brats hate walking on leashes - they're chickens!!!! But I guess it's a good thing since we have a lot of dogs in the neighborhood. The brats get more exercise inside the house anyway. We do a lot of chasing and rough-housing. They love it. The strollers do require ferret proofing. If you can pick up a used one on ebay like I did, you might be able to find a good deal - I had to watch ebay for a while before a used one became available for a good price.

I have an Outward Hound stroller (it was a gift) and really like it. One thing to watch for in any stroller is if it has foam covering the handle. A lady I know had one of her ferrets chew the foam (she didn't realize this) poor little guy didn't survive long after surgery.
I really like using the stroller, but would like a bigger one!
