Good lord! I put all the furbrats (4) in the tub with two mice... O.O; such fits! Tea absolutely LOVED the mice. He was going NUTS. Killed them so quick it was impressive considering he is my youngest. He ate both heads too !_! I think he's going to wind up being my alpha. Despite him being the smallest right now he defended his prizes with a vengeance! T.W.O and Weasel were both supremely interested in tasting the mice (they got little nibbles of the legs and head while Tea wasn't looking). The three of them were hissing and screaming their heads off though... I know I've read that this happens but it was a LOT of screaming. no blood that I can tell of though. I put the remainders in the cage since they actually seemed interested in eating the mouse this time.. Mink was entirely unamused/uninterested in the mice. brat. SO EXCITED !_! I think i may have to start breeding or something come the spring. The funny thing is I woke up this morning to all four of them cuddling in the same cube. They absolutely love eachother but oh my god the bitching~! Now they're all running around the room going nuts and dooking.

Normal My first experience with the fighting was over a drumstick. One on either end, yelling and screaming, and neither would give way. It was hilarious

Congratulations Screaming and eating....life with ferrets. If the food is worth stealing it's worth screaming about . I watched the ultimate game, 4 fuzzies chasing a 5th with part of a rat. The joke....the 5th hates rats...he just stole it for the sheer pleasure of being a pain. The screaming was wild, if I could have found my video camera it would have been great. 3 of those 4 fuzzies were deaf, as sherrylynne will verify I don't need to tell you the noise. ciao

Now that is the ultimate description of a born trouble maker Yeah- the deafies can certainly get loud alright. But believe it or not, my loudest now is a hearing ferret- my newest. Not a thing wrong with her hearing- just a major temper

Man I wish I could afford more mice... They're about 2 dollars a pop where I get them ._.; I can't breed them either because I live in an apartment and the last thing I need is the landlord popping in and finding a poop ton of mice in a series of plastic tubs... XD;

Pika you're killing me! "proud Owner of a new Mouse poop!" OMG! Isn't it just fascinating how their innards work that mouse fur into a rope? You gonna take the next step and do what I did unwind and dissect that rope to unravel its mysteries? The pix on this forum may save you from embarassing moments with family members - but it IS fascinationg how natural food is so good for them! Yep - the brains are the delectable parts apparently. Each ferret may exhibit unique tastes - Faylene would hardly ever eat the tails. While Josie often left the paws and practically always their stomachs. Fozzy tended to crush the heck out of their heads and eat just the front ends. Roman devours everything, as do Windy and Crystal. I don't think Bugsy has ever gotten the chance to finish an entire mouse on his own as Windy always steals his. I've got enough ferrets now that whatever parts one doesn 't eat another will - so I don't find "leftovers" anymore - just "deposits"! Happy to hear your ferrets are becoming REAL ferrets! Cheers, Kim

Lol~ They don't get mice as often as I'd like them to. I don't trust frozen ones >.>; Is that weird? I feel as if they're fresher if they're live and I let my youngest do the killing as he's definitely the most proficient at it.
Mice are waaaay expensive here at 2+ dollars per adult mouse. I also don't have the facilities to breed mice as I am in an apartment that barely likes me having the ferrets....
; ; Ah well... someday...
Have you heard anything about rodentpro vs the big cheese?

I know exactly what you mean about live being fresher than frozen - and, well - they ARE!
You could breed a few as "treats" in a ten gallon aquarium set up.
While it wouldn't offer any real feeding amount of mice - one or two litters raised in a few months would offer some enrichment without taking over your apartment.
Price wise Rodent prosuits my location better. I also try to buy when they are running their specials. There are a couple other breeders in Florida but they still don't beat rodent pro.
I don't need fancy vacuum packaging or individual wrapping. So far the prey items appear "fresh" and disease free. No bad odor or color as they thaw.
No morsels left uneaten.
Whereas a few years back I'd purchased "arctic mice" and "Polar mice" from a chain pet store and apparently one of them was spoiled and Fozzy, Faylene and Josie all got sick. Most likely the prepackaged mice had thawed then been refrozen once or twice. I'd noticed the mouse in the bottom of the package was a bit "off color" but I chalked it up to being squished into the container.
I know better now and anything that looks "odd" does NOT get fed!
I saved a LOT of money raising my own mice - but I'll need to rethink my set up to do it again. I need to make it less time consuming, easier to clean and sort. SO until I do that and come up with something that works better - I'll keep buying from RodentPro.
Cheers. Kim

Ok my only concern with rodent pro was that some people said the mice smelled really bad defrosting and as much as I love my ferrets I don't need rotten mice smell coming from my fridge... Especially when I have a total germaphobe roomate.
