Okay, I am about this close to starting Jack out on a raw diet. I have read alot about it, and it sounds like it is the best thing for him! I agree with it in so many aspects! However, when my honey and I were out for dinner this weekend with another couple, they had a ferret at one time, and fed him some tuna and he said that it turned him mean??? Now this scared me! Any truth to it? What does everyone think? Im thinking that its rare for it to happen, but I certainly do not want to take that chance of him turning mean! Nothing on here has suggested anything to that, but I want to make sure before I open this pandoras box.

My three girls are all raw eaters, and they are the sweetest, kindest, most affectionate things ever. :3

I don't feed raw yet, I'm working on it, but I can't see how eating tuna can suddenly turn a ferret mean. Eating new things certainly don't turn humans mean. Maybe they decided to blame the food instead of really looking into what else could have caused it?

My two boys are both on an entirely raw diet and they most certainly arent mean. Newt has his moments but he is still a kit . Overall it is so much better for their bodies when done properly and gives them considerably more energy (at least in my experience). It also stimulates their mind a little more since every meal is different and they actually have to work to take off pieces of meat. They also know the difference between mom's hands and their dinner. I hand feed them with no feat of them trying to take my hand with their chicken/mouse etc. I cant possibly see how a piece of tuna would make a ferret mean... unless it had mercury poisoning...

I know! You would think it impossible for them to have more energy but it happened in our household.

Just ignore the crazy comments about ferrets becoming mean after eating meat! That's about as absurd as a dog reverting to a wolf like state because its owners gave it a piece of steak!
As a committed natural feeder - I've encountered MANY naysayer comments - usually from the "peanut gallery" (uninformed general public) and also from supposedly learned people( like vets) but its my ferrets I listen to!
The natural diet has actually turned around the aggressive ferrets I've adopted! They learn quickly (thankfully) where they can get to really use their teeth the way they were designed to be used - and happily quit testing them out on my human flesh!
Just keep reminding yourself that people USED to believe the world was flat - and the few explorers who though otherwise - were considered to be lunatics - until the explorers were able to prove the naysayers wrong!
Delve into the raw realm and you'll be amazed at the wonderful changes in your ferrets!
Cheers, Kim

I've actually found my biters have started biting LESS on raw. They've got something to chew on, and take their frustrations out on. Here's a pic of my very worst fear biter(abused rescue), just a few days after I got her. I'm hand feeding her tidbits of raw meat. She still bit for a long time afterward, but this is where she learned human hands could hold good things as well
