OK, so you've switched to raw diet. You indlide feeding of dry foods - maybe some kibble too. You still want to provide variety, but your kids aren't eating much kibble anymore, and the freeze-dried nacks last a LONG time of you buy a variety of them. You can't afford to be donating/throwing away all the old kibble and/or freeze-dried meats that your kids aren't eating. And small quantites of treats are so unaffordable. NOW what? Whether or not your kibble and/or treats are getting too, old, too stale, etc., exposure to light, air,"heat", and time will degrade the NUUTRITIONAL VALUE of dry foods. Morover, oils/fats in these foods will go rancid over time, ad feeding rancid foods is unhealthy for your ferret. Dry foods can be kept a lot fresher, more palatable, and MORE NUTRITIOUS if you put it in plastic bins, zip-lock freezer bags, or some air-tight container/packaging and store it in the FREEZER. Be sure to squeeze out extra air from zip-lock bags for storage. Even if you don't have room for exerything, those expensive treats in the "economy-sized bags" might be worth storing in the freezer. What, no room in the freezer??? You can still store your dry foods in opaque, air-tight bins in a cool, dry location where the sun won't be beating the nutirtion out of your foods!!! -jennifer
