We have the 3 ferrets right now: Twitch, Kale, and Damien. It doesn't matter what kind of meat it is but they fight over it, every meal. The only food they can't fight over is ground. (you can't play tug of war with ground beef, but I can assure you, they've tried.) Last night my husband fed them before he came to bed. Chicken legs. They fought and fought and fought and finally got quiet and went to sleep. Then I wake up to them screaming again, fighting over the left over bones. And it doesn't matter how many bones we offer. They only want to fight over the one bone. If we cut up boneless meat for them into bitesized pieces, they will still fight over the same piece.
Is there anything, other than separating them for feeding time, that we can do to get them to stop fighting?

Ahhh fighting over that choice piece of meat . You know, even if you gave them the whole chicken they would still fight over the same toe . Not to worry, it's all about who is at the top of the food chain. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get hurt over food. It's loud and it can get rough but I've never seen it bad enough to hurt anyone for. Even after all this time, my guys will fight over the so called choice piece. I let them, it's part of ferret stimulation and manipulation. I love it when the so called "top guns" get in a row over a piece of meat and ultimately loose it to the "low man" because he snuck in and stole it and got away while the big boys fought it out. Personally, I let it go. If it seems particularly rough, I will sit around and watch it but I interfere rarely, it only causes more hastles. I honestly think they consider it as part of the dinner entertainment.....it's all part of ferret fun. ciao

Yea, all three tend to lock onto the same pieces and just pull in different directions all the while screaming their heads off. The only part that bothers me is their cage is in our room so it kind of sucks when its time for bed and they are still fighting over a bone or something.

I can understand that! Try giving them day old chicks if you really want to see fighting Mine do it on a regular basis.
