Well, we ended up coming home with the Chinese Crested we went to visit (as if there was any doubt). Meet Mojito! He's either 4 or 5 and about 15 pounds and won't let me out of his sight. He and the cats are adjusting well to each other... a lot of sideways glances, but no outward aggression. He was previously on Eukanuba, but he eagerly eats whatever I put in front of him so far. I'd like to get him mostly on NV. The few teeth he has left look pretty horrible, so I expect some dental surgery in the near future. His skin is also a mess, but I'm expecting the new diet to help with that too. He and the ferrets were extremely interested in each other through the playpen bars, but that's as close as they're going to get! My husband wanted a dog... I don't think one that must wear sweaters at all times and is too shy to even sit on his lap was exactly what he had in mind... I'm going to have to be extra nice to him for awhile

Chinese Crested are notorious for having bad teeth and other dental problems, it stinks that he's only 5-ish and he's already lost a few. He is ADORABLE though... and you can get him some really cool sweaters, maybe even a faux leather jacket?

Oh dear lord. I'm glad you like your dog, and I'm glad you were able to give them a good home, but I think chinese crested are some of the ugliest dogs ever. XD

His little haircut is awesome. So cute! He looks like a little model dog with that expression on his face sitting on that furry blanket.

That's actually his natural hairstyle! He gets a light trim on his muzzle just to keep things neat looking, but that's it. He's a freaky looking little thing, I know. I'll have to get a few photos of him without a sweater. People say it's weird because the rest of him "feels like a human" From what I've read, most show Cresties are actually "hairy hairless," meaning they can grow a whole coat and it's shaved down to the skin except for crest, socks, and tail to look like Mo does all the time (except prettier). And hairy hairlesses are different from the Powderpuff varieties, which also have a full coat. Poor guy had eight incisors removed last week. I'm not sure he's ever seen a vet besides to be neutered, and I'm sure he's never had a dental cleaning. He also has drops for one eye, which the vet thought had an old injury but should improve, and a round of antibiotics for his skin. Frankly, Mo was irresponsibly bred and then poorly kept, which is why we're dealing with a handful of issues now. BUT... he will eat ANYTHING in his bowl! He's had ground chicken, turkey and rabbit and NV medallions. Next time I pick up a package of whole wings or legs I'd like to give them a try too. He's healing up and got enough molars left to do it!

I think he is adorable! You have such a big heart to take him on knowing he needed an overhaul.

We ended up going shopping after work, so I grabbed a package of wingettes. Out of curiosity I offered him a whole one... and he took it and started crunching! I took it back and cut it into smaller pieces, especially the bone, and he ate every bit!
Guess I have some research to do about dogs and raw! I think I've already read that some chicken bones are small enough to be more of a choking hazard.
If I could only convince my last cat to eat raw stuff without hiding it in an elaborate mix, my mornings would go a lot quicker...

What is it that makes Chinese Cresteds lose teeth so fast? I know it's a genetic defect carried in the breed, but I am wondering if a Chinese Crested was put on a raw diet from birth if they would have so many issues with teeth? Either way I love them, I think the ones with so many teeth missing their tongues hang out are kinda sad though....like "Elwood", the world's "ugliest dog".

Why don't you check out either this link for raw feeding dogs: pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/ , or dogster? The last has a subsection on raw feeding also. And by the way? Mojito is adorable!!!!
