Well, I bit. I saw her at the pet store with her dark mask and dark nose and... just melted. She's very young and tiny and according to her certificate, she's a Real Canadian Ferret. She's currently eating that Premium Ferret stuff. When would be ideal to switch her? What should I start with? She doesn't seem reluctant to try anything. She's already stolen and munched on a rogue cricket that escaped while I was feeding my gecko. lol Here's a pic just because:

Shes adorable congrats!! Kits are a breeze to switch, just throw out the kibble or return it and toss her a chicken wing They have no had the time to imprint on kibble yet so now is THE BEST time to switch her. Oh and just a heads up, Real Canadian ferrets can be..a handful. They are not raised for temperment like Marshall's ferrets are. All it means is they have more personality than Marshall's

I read that they were notorious for being nippy. My little girl's got spunk.

Definitely give her a wing to try! If she seems overwhelmed by it, just section it for her. You may have to slash the drumette skin so she can get a grip on it. And by the way? She is just so darned precious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, on your little one. She's adorable...start her eating raw...just offer it to her, she will thank you and ask for more RC....spunky ferts...yes, they bite but oooohhh they're so sweet and if you treat her right, she will give you her undying loyalty and love. You do realize of course she's going to give you some real trouble . You will have to post about her antics. Napoleon's favourite stunt was to climb his fuzzy butt onto the bed and then launch teeth first at your passing legs (you were prey). He had this adorable habit of saying his prayers in a scruff (good thing too, I could have strangled the little sh** more than a few times ). He was the fert that taught me how not to scruff. He would give me this closed mouthed, closed eye, I'm limp. I would let him go and he would attack me screaming, you could hear his teeth clicking and his little bottlebrush tail would be stuck straight up in the air. Unfortunately, something that small only makes you laugh but you know his bite hurt, so I learned to use alternative disciplinary methods. ciao

Thanks for the feedback.
I will definitely keep you all updated.
How are RCF health wise? I heard that they're bigger than Marshall's

Here is a PM I sent to Emilee (claudettebille) about RC ferts when I was looking up what ear tats they use for someone else. I was looking up what tattoo they put in ears for someone on HF and read through the thread and though RCF are more wild (like we all know Tootsie is ) they seem to have a lot lower rates of lymphoma and insulimona than MFF. They are said to be stockier with a shorter snout and neck than MFF. There is a pic of 2 boys at the bottom of the thread and they are some big dudes.
Thought this might interest you if you hadn't read it before

I have 3 RC ferts and they're all rescues from different places...and some people must've done a great job with them because I've had zero issues with them being nippy despite the rough backgrounds I was told about. They are Very strong willed, curious, independent, and trouble makers in other ways when compared to my one Marshalls fert (and my RC female's almost twice the size of my Marshall's girl, the boys absolutely dwarf her)......but now that they've warmed up to me, they're also very sweet and affectionate when they aren't being busy. Tadakichi even crawled into bed with me the other day, I caught him sleeping upside-down with a grin on his face under my chin . You'll have so much fun with that cutey!

Did she eat it? I see shes licking on it. If she finds the whole wing to be a bit overwhelming, you can cut it at the segments to make 3 peices. If thats still overwhelming then cut each of the segments in half to make 6 peices total. Shes so small that wing will probably fill her up all day.

She keeps going back and forth.
She's gnawed off the wing tips so far but I may need to cut it up for her.
