We decided to try something new with our 10 raw food eaters. Their feeding area is the bottom level of two side by side Ferret Nation cages - 2'x6'. So, I took a cornish game hen, split it, and let them have at it. Several of them really enjoyed it (Zoey spent 1/2 hour munching on a drumstick). Some of the others didn't eat much at all. I think the fact that it was huge (for them), and not in a bowl was confusing. For now, I think we'll stick to smaller pieces. Still, it was fun to watch them play tug o' war with 1/2 a hen.

I love tossing them a quarter of a hen (I have five kids, so that's enough!) and seeing them go at it! Your kids will get better at tackling meals larger than themselves with practice - it can be intimidating for sure! I wouldn't want to eat a meal that was bigger than I am, either!

Sounds like they had fun, and yes- it would be a bit confusing, but if you keep doing it from time to time, they'll get the hang of it!

That's what mine do: a few will gnaw on it, the rest ignore it. I have to cut it up!!!

Newt and Luxo eat a quarter hen between them. I find it amusing watching them try and gnaw it apart. I love cornish hens when I can get them on sale!

On sale is right! They come in two-packs around me and a 2 pack is 6 bucks! All 6 of mine eat about a half of a hen

I wish I could find them on sale! A two pack is about $13, depending on size.

I haven't gotten mine CGH yet but I'm going to. They do eat whole quail though. You can buy CGH at walmart for $1 each.

Our Wal-Marts have gone up on CGH from 1.98 to an average of 2.50 each, still that's cheaper than the two packs of Tyson and Perdue at 10 to 13.00. I've just learned there is an "Aldi" nearby so will check that out.
I cut the CGH into mouse sized pieces, preferring to let them tote their individual morsels to their own eating spots - even though I now make them "kennel up" morning and night for meals. They'll still take their own piece to a differnt corner on different levels to chow down.

The Cornish Game Hens in my town are regularly $6 (and maybe a few cents) for a two pack, and I think I may have paid $4 for a single cornish hen (it was a small chicken, too!!!) at Wal-Mart.

The Wal*Mart around here sells two packs for about $4! It's interesting to see the price differences around the country for the exact same product from the exact same store.

$2.50 apiece at my closest Wal-Mart, too.

Well I don't know about you but I'm never surprised when things cost more in Canada
