No more than 10% is preferred but 15% is the absolute max correct? I assume this because Aunt Jeni's has 15% and a few people feed that.

I could be wrong, but I understood that ideally a preferable amount would be 5% to a maximum of 10% at the outside. Not that you can often get the ideal amount in a lot of premade

in my opinion, 10-15% is too high, if fed as an only diet.
There are plenty of commercial raw providers with 5% or less fruits and vegetables.
Nature's Variety - some versions are 5% Stella and Chewy's Canine - 4% Wysong - 1% Stella and Chewy's Feline - 0% AFS (Animal Food Services) - 0%
All these foods can be found at The Pantry.

I guess it's just me but I don't feed any vegetable product, even though "in the wild" they may eat the stomachs of their prey containing minute amounts of produce.

I was asking this for someone else. I do feed Loki commercial raw but it has 10% and I am fine with that. If it was less that would be better of course. I feed her Primal, I don't like the fact NV won't tell anyone their percentage of bone, organs and all that it makes me uncomfortable. Plus the Primal is cheaper, only $22 for 4 lbs. I haven't calculated how much it would cost to feed just Loki freeze dried for a month only how much it would cost to feed everyone and it was way too expensive. I am going to be buying some Stella and Chewy's or something for everyone soon though as I'll need it to feed everyone while in the van for a day when I move to TX.

Let me know how that goes. I need to get mine on freeze dried in the event I can't be with them for a day or so.

Will do All of mine love their freeze dried beef livers so since they are used to the texture I think they will take to it well. I can put anything in front of them and they eat it Loki just won't eat frankenprey. She really surprised me that she loves those livers. What surprised me even more is she loves duck jerky too. Another option for traveling is ZiwiPeak which is raw air dried jerky. If you contact the company and say you want to try it before you buy it they will send you samples. I have gotten some samples before and mine love all the flavors. Just fill out the form on the right side and they will send the samples. Stella and Chewy's used to give out free samples but last I heard they aren't anymore. It wouldn't hurt to try though. You could always order a sample pack from Casey's Hidden pantry. Not free but she sends a variety of several of the items offered at the store for the fuzzits to try. That way you know what they do or don't like. www.caseyshiddenpantry.com/

So, did you hand-feed or force it to them, or just put it in a bowl and see if they ate it? I'm afraid the texture will freak some of them out

I've found that although mine love dehydrated beef liver, and Wysong's freeze dried, trying to get them to eat either Stella and Chewy's, or AFS is really difficult! So if you can- get them on the freeze dried of choice for a while before travelling

So, in your opinion, what is a good starter kind/a good kind?

I started with Wysong's Archetypal 1 ferret. Not particular reason- it's just what my mentor suggested to me, because of the texture of it. It comes in chunks and flakes in the same bag.

Well I bought them for treats not even realizing i could probably just feed them instead of fresh livers. So I just handed them to them. No takers the first try I don't think. I ended up grinding it and sprinkling it over their food once or twice. Then I tried again handing it to them and they ate it and are now addicted.
Mine have also eaten the wysongs freeze dried , I got them samples before. I do plan on letting them all try it before the trip. They are eating machines so I have faith in them lol.

I was reading the nutritional info on Primal's site and noticed that the pheasant Loki has been eating only has 5% produce! so yay to that. Coincidently it also has 11% fat which is the highest in the feline formulas except for the chicken and salmon which also has 11% fat.
The ones that have 5% produce are Pheasant Quail Turkey Venison
The Beef and Salmon and Chicken and Salmon formulas have 10% produce.
