I posted this on my ferret's mentor thread, but I want other opinions as well.
My roommate's cat has show a /lot/ of interest in raw, going as far as already eating chicken liver/egg soup and small chunks of whole, raw pork. There are two problems with this though.
1) If I were to take the effort to fully (or even just partially) switch Elliott over to raw, I know for a fact that she wouldn't put an ounce of effort into continuing the diet once I move out in early February. She would just be back on the crappy walmart brand cat food she is on now.
2) My roommate is completely convinced that any "human" food is going to make her cat sick, since the cat had a bad experience with table scraps when she first moved in (it was processed pasta-roni crap). Because of this, she is completely against me giving her any raw meat. I've been sneaking her scraps every time I feed the carpet shark, and even that little bit has helped her serious digestive issues (her litter box is GROSS, and her poops are unlike any cat's I've ever seen).
What do you guys think I should do? Should I continue feeding her scraps when my roommate isn't watching, and then point out the fact that her poo issue is doing better because of it? Or, should I just not, and watch the poor thing continue eating horrible kibble?

hmmm. I don't really hold authority or anything. But I say you should talk with your roommate about the positives of feeding raw for their cat. BUT since you stated that you are moving out soon I would think that sneaking scraps and switching her might be a little much on her belly if you know that she is just going to go back on the kibble once you are gone. But like I said, I really have no say in the end, this is just my opinion and what I can see working out the best if I was in your shoes. I hate to see others feeding their animals poorly, but I just mention raw and how it is beneficial and leave the owner to make the choice.

Have you had any more conversations with your roommate about Elliott? I know you're continuing to offer him meats and he's gobbling them up, which is wonderful. I'm hoping your roommate is coming over to the dark side!
