As soon as we get the security deposit together, we might be moving. We will be moving into a 3 bedroom house with hardwood floors (thank god!) and the ferrets will get their very own bedroom. Because the screws in our current cage have become stripped, we will not be able to put their cage back together once we move. So we have opted to purchase a brand new FN 142 once we move. We are going to fill the new cage with brand new hammocks, blankets, beds, toys, and all manner of ferret goodies. We also plan on putting tunnels throughout the room, as well as a dig box or two and covering the floor with plastic.
We are going to put child safety caps on all the outlets and plan on putting boards on the bottom of the doors so they can't slip under them. The room is attached to the washer and dryer room, and our friend says it can get sort of warm in that room, so we plan on keeping the window open (they can't reach the window sill) slightly to keep the temperature down. I also plan on putting in a thermometer so I can keep an eye on the exact temp in the room. (What temp should I aim for?)
This ferret room will be a work in progress and I plan on taking pictures as soon as I get started. What else would you recommend for the room. My ferrets have a habit of stashing food, so I was thinking of feeding dens as well. I also had the idea of a small kiddie swimming pool filled with dirt and plants for them to play in. What plants are safe for ferrets as far as chewing and skin contact? In the summer time I was thinking of using this as an actual swimming pool for them (supervised of course!).
