I am in the middle of making my ferrets soup for the month and while I was mixing up the KMR, it exploded and went all over my kitchen. Unfortunatly, that was the last of my powdered KMR, and there's no way that I can get more any time soon. I do have a can of goats milk, and I was wondering if that could be used instead? The reason that I use the KMR is that one of my ferrets is under a year old, and another is just barely over a year so I add it in to help out the growing little furts. So what do you guys think, should I toss in the goats milk or just go without for this month?

I use Meyenburg powdered goats milk for soups. I used to use KMR but I noticed a ferret on a can of Goats milk esbilac (posted about it) holisticferret.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=gen&action=display&thread=3555I figured since there was a ferret on that can it would be better suited for them than KMR. Well I could NOT find a small can of the stuff for the life of me and I found the meyenburg stuff instead which is marketed for people. I feel really good giving it to them because it is just 100% all natural antibiotic hormone free goats milk. No corn syrup solids or any of that junk. Only bad thing is mine do not really like it. They drink it but they look at me like do i have to? Whereas with the KMR they climbed allover me to drink that stuff plain. I thought about going back to the KMR since they like it more but since they don't flat out refuse the goats milk I just stick to it because its all natural. SoOoOoOooo yes you can give them the goats milk instead ;D

I occasionally give small amounts of goat's milk - it's low-lactose compared to goat's milk. I use the non-powdered stuff, pour it in ice cube trays and freeze the cubes.
Depending on how much you use and the ages of your ferrets, you may see some loose stool. The younger ferts can probably tolerate lactose better since they still may have the ability to digest milk.
Milk does have sugars, and most ferrets are fully weaned by 12-13 weeks of age. A small amount of goat's milk is not a bad thing for ferrets as long as they're not loading up on sugars frm other sources.
