Okay, so I don't have a specific book..it's really just any book by Chuck Palahniuk that I would recommend to anyone who is bored and wants a very interesting, exciting, humorous, strange, grotesque, shocking, intense read.
And yes, Chuck's work is all of those things.
You may know him by his most famous book, Fight Club after it was made into a movie (mmm...Brad Pit lol). Another movie made from one of his books, Choke, is coming out very soon. Keep an eye out!
I would definitely recommend reading Haunted, Invisible Monsters, or Survivor.
One interesting thing about Chuck is that all of his work is fiction, but he puts his stories together by compiling random pieces and tidbits of odd stories and whatnot that his friends tell, things he overhears, etc....and then works them into his books. It's really quite amazing!
As for what category he belongs to, I guess I would classify it as modern fiction? I'm not sure.
Here's a link to one of his books on Amazon.com, which also has the rest of his books under the similar buys section

Now, before you read any of his books...you should know that the reason I read it is I love the shock and awe factor in books and movies. I love to have that intense twist at the end, and I love to have something so strange or gross happen in a book that I have to reread a page 3 times to make sure what I thought I read is REALLY what is happening lol.
Also, if you're very conservative or very religious, you may not enjoy these books either. They can be offensive, they do involve sex, drug use, prostitution, anything you can think of hide your children from, really. But I like these books because of how raw they are in that he's not afraid to be completely out there with absurd, obscene ideas.
Anyway, enough with my rant (which is another really good Palahniuk book!), go and read some reviews and see if you might enjoy him!!
