I have been looking at ferret tubes. Wouldn't dryer vent hoses be the same thing? The ones at these pet stores are very pricey.

That's what I had for my childhood ferret - I just had to tape the entrances, the metal could poke out and that could be dangerous. I used electrical tape then. But they have all colors of duct tape now lol

We used to have one for them that my dad bought for their birthday. It lasted quite a while (I think little over 3 months) before it started unraveling from so much use. We to had to use duct tape on the ends to keep the wire from sticking out and scratching or stabbing one of them. We eventually gave in and bought a more expensive one from a pet store, and it will probably last forever! It's good quality. I think it's worth saving up and buying a nice one because it's worth the price. I think we only paid like, $15 for the one we got. Here's what we have now (you can even buy more later and connect them to make them longer, also comes in different colors) www.petco.com/product/5301/Super-Pet-FerreTrail-Flex-E-Fun-nels.aspx?CoreCat=LN_Shopping_SmallAnimalSupplies_Ferrets_CageandHabitatAccessories

The dryer vent hoses work, but they get trashed pretty quickly. Fierra loved sticking her teeth through the plastic and dragging them around. Now I use lawn and gutter drainage tubes. Indestructible and can be washed out with warm-hot water. I think we bought our big 25' black tube for $15.

I've purchased the pet or ferret tubes a couple of times, I've found that though they hold up reasonably well, they do fall apart and the pastic falls apart in small pieces. I found that they were very pricey but then your prices I wouldn't mind paying....for me they're $45. I've used the metal dryer vents and they hold up very well (as long as you don't step on them ) I'm going to experiment with some of the other types of construction tubes (drainage, possible plumbing tubes too) ciao

black drainage tubes are the best/ cheapest ferret tubes i have found. i get them at home depot for $4 and my little guys can climb them at a 90 degree angle because of the bumps in the tube. for a slide, adding some pvc pipe works great. i havent bought a dryer tube and honestly i never will. i could see my little guys destroying it within 5 minutes

They are SO not worth the money.

I got a 10 foot tube for only $4.99 and it WILL last forever, there is absolutely nothing dangerous about it and cannot be destroyed

I'll have to try the black drainage tubes so I can put them at angles. That's a great idea!

I've used the dryer tubes for quite a while before I got the clear plastic tubes. They love playing in either. The aluminum dryer tube cost me $4 for 8', and lasted about 3 months. The clear plastic pet tubing costs me $20, and has lasted over a year now, and I've had one run up the stairs for about 7-8 months, with no problems!
