I have been thinking about the raw based on the whole prey model. Normally, it's as follows: 75-80% muscle meat 10-15% edible bone 10% organs Now, what confuses me is the one on here (took me a while to find it) is as follows: 60% RMB's 30% muscle meat 10% organs When this one is put back into terms of the original, there is too much bone and not enough meat! 60% muscle meat 30% edible bone 10% organs Here's how I did it: 60% RMB's = about 50/50 muscle meat to bone, so 30% muscle meat 30% bone 30% muscle meat + 30% muscle meat from RMB's = 60% muscle meat 10% organs (doesn't change) So, what I have concluded from this is that it should actually be (switch muscle meat and RMB's): 60% muscle meat 30% RMB's 10% organs When this is put back into the original, it's about the same! 75% muscle meat 15% bone 10% organs Here's how I did it: 30% RMB's = about 50/50 muscle meat to bone, so 15% muscle meat, 15% bone 60% muscle meat + 15% muscle meat from RMB's = 75% muscle meat 10% organs (doesn't change) So, did I totally do this wrong, or is this right? I think too much

Way toooooooo much What fun. I think you've got it. That's a lot of work. I don't think I've ever thought about it that much If you're doing prey model, there is also a percentage that is going to be used as roughage....you know fur, sinew...pieces that are eaten but not digested. I believe the percentage is about 3% with the books at one time stating 2% to 5%. That will be veggie matter when you're doing prey model. Some who believe true carnivores don't need this when you're creating frankenprey. I used to be like that until I started feeding ferrets. Go figure . I don't think you will ever make your ferret sick by not adding it, but that being said, I've had some rather odd successes by adding it. My healthy, young ferrets, I can't see any difference at least nothing that I can put my finger on.....smaller poopies??? I don't know. With the ones with illnesses, IBD, ulcers, mast cell tumours (yes, that is what Napoleon has on his belly poor little fellow) these guys seem to benefit. Napoleon has had no outbreak in 2 weeks after having his veggy matter and the ugly tumour on his paw has shrunk (this does this once in awhile anyway so this may mean nothing). Ghenghis and Thor both have IBD, they haven't lost any weight since I started putting veggies in their food. They also are going farther and farther between outbreaks. Now these are purely anectdotal...they're just my observations, so you can take them or leave them ciao

Haha I lost you at "%", but I'm happy to report that I seem to feed about that right now.

I think WAY too much Based on the post about veggies added to a ferrets diet (I think even more so if you feed ground which I'll be feeding mostly), I'm going to be adding purred (maybe cooked?) veggies to their ground raw. Especially since two of our most experienced people on the forum add them (Heather and mustelidmusk). Should the veggies be cooked?

I think they'd have to be, since they can't break down the cellular walls in the uncooked variety. If I remember correctly, Heather said she tosses some lettuce into the freezer, which does the same thing.

I freeze mine....if you cook your veggies make sure that you use the water that you cooked them in...there's no reason to throw out the nutrients, who knows they may be able to use them once the cell walls are broken down (carnivores lack the ability to break down whole raw veggies, these can also cause blockages if given raw). Studies on ferrets are few and far between, studies on ferret diets are non-existant (at least until Bob Church completes his) so we can only guess, try and observe. ciao

RMB is a term raw feeders use for Raw Meaty Bones. It's just easier to say and type
