Hi there, I was wondering if any of you have tried the Peticure or other products like that one on your ferret's nails. I wanted to ask if it would be safe. Because it is ment for Dogs and Cats, and I l would think Ferret claws wouldn't be as strong or thick as dogs and cats.
What do you think? Do you think it would be fine for me to use the *Peticure* or another product like it, For my Ferrets nails?
;D ?

I use the Pedipaw, and I love it! It takes some getting use to and figuring out what works for you. But I put some tone on the tum tums and start grinding and rounding their nails. You do have to remove the "protective" cap because it just isn't meant for the smaller nails and becomes very cumbersome. I do have a few ferrets that can lick up the tone in 3 seconds flat, so with those ones I quickly trim the tip with clippers than round down the nail to prevent snagging. I had problems with snagging until I started using it. If you are worried about removing the cap, it is not a stong file, take it off and run it against your arm you'll find that it stops with fairly little pressure, and every nose that has touched it has pulled away damage free. Good luck!

I personally wouldn't use something like that. I've had my nails filed with a dremal and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Because the person who did my nails was inexperienced, I still have gouges in the top layer of several of my nails... And this happened almost 2 months ago. Not to mention, there is a distinct heat that almost burns that I think that most animals wouldn't deal with very well... Especially not ferrets since their nails are comparatively thin.

I haven't had any problems with it. The first few times was awkward, but now that I do it every week it just takes a few moments of just rounding each nail. No heat problem, no gouging, and best yet, no splitting of the nails, which happened when I cut them with clippers. I also know I will not go into the quick, because once you get to the thicker part of the nail it takes more time and the ferrets will pull away before you hurt them. I never hold them strong enough that they can't get away, so if it hurts they wouldn't let me do it. But you do need to hold each toe as you do each nail.
If your ferret doesn't like tone, do you used fish oil or some other liquidy type of a treat you can put your ferrets tummy that could be used as a distraction.
