Hello everyone!! My name is Jessica, My boyfriend Jay and I have 2 beautiful girls A silver sable mitt named Loki, She is roughly 2 years old and a Chocolate sable named Rolo She turns 9 months on the 16th. So I am very glad to be invited to this group and am excited to learn more about holistic ferret care. I do not yet feed B.A.R.F but i plan to in the near future. For now I am just learning about it. I feed my girls a Diet of The Ferret Store food Superior Choice original. It is rated a number one on several diet comparison charts so i feel good about feeding it to them because it has no corn, No fish, No artificial flavors, colors, or preservative. I sprinkle some Nupro All-Natural ferret supplement on their food and treat the occasionally with this in a gravy. Right now my Rolo is on antibiotics so i mix some plain organic yogurt in so the good bacteria can help fight the bad bacteria. Well I'm glad I joined and I hope that you are too! Jessica

Its great to have you here! I am interested to know if you are wanting to feed a TRUE barf diet, or if you are wanting to feed a raw diet based on the prey model. (There are several types of raw diets out there). Here is a good thread to check out (its sticky of posts that I have made on the ferret.com forum) It has ALOT of good info regarding how to feed ferrets natural diets (bear in mind that most of the text in that thread will be on the Holistic Ferret website when it opens this fall) forum.ferret.com/tm.asp?m=59579Please feel free to post as many questions as you want! We are very friendly here and are happy to help in any way we can. Im sorry that Rolo doesnt feel well BTW- One of our members (Meli) also resides in TN, I wonder if you guys are near each other.

Hi Jessica I have a Loki too He's a large, 7 yr old sable, who loves to steal the dinner bowl and lately the dog's water bowl. That just has to stop....there's way to much water around. It's bad enough that the cat can't find his dinner bowl but the water bowl is way to large to fit in a tunnel. Might I make a suggestion....the yogurt would be better served after the antibiotics are completed, to replenish the good gut bacteria that was destoyed while Rolo was taking his antibiotics. Good luck, little Rolo...hope you're feeling well soon. Ciao

Thank you for the suggetion to give her the yogurt after her antibiotics are over. She has been done for 2 days now and she is doing so much better. I'm still getting used to the fact that she is growing up and becomming a very mellow cuddly ferret. She has always been cuddly but she can't get enough of it now. I had a scare a few days ago it got too hot inside my girls octopus in the cage and I went to get them out and she had her mouth open so i put her under some luke warm water for a few minutes and I gave her about 500 ml or more pedilyte with an oral syringe while i was waiting on my sister to get here. Loki got better before she got here. She was running around the house more hyper than she has been all month dooking like crazy. I think the extra electrolytes gave her a much needed boost so luckily . this time no vet trip was needed.
