Reading about all the diseases and vet bills concerning ferts I started to look into pet insurance. What do you guys think? This is something I plan to pick up when I start working. All the vets near me accept pet insurance. www.petinsurance.com/index.aspx

Dont waste your money. Been there, done that. I had VPI insurance on Lugnut and Hendrix when I first got them. Insurance companies that cover ferrets dont cover the major diseases, like adrenal. I found that out AFTER I had signed up. I cancled my poicy immediately.
Also, if you are feeding a natural diet and useing minimal vaccinations you wont need your money re-imbursed for dental cleanings and vaccines.
IMO a better choice is the credit card Care Credit. If approved the card is interest free for a "promo period". Basically you have a few months after you charge before they start charging you interest. I paid for a medical bill for Mizu (tim's ferret) in Feb. I just recently paid it off before the interest started. Its a GREAT deal, just be sure your vet hospital takes care credit (many of the bigger ones do).
Ideally you will have a savings account for your ferrets, but maybe you had to use that money for another emergency (stuff happens) the care credit card is the next best thing.

Thats stupid. Why cover them if you don't even cover the major diseases. Uggg companies don't make sense sometimes. Thanks for the info.

Why cover them if you don't even cover the major diseases. Because they dont want to lose $$$$. Its all about $$$. But dont even get me started on insurance (human or animal insurance ) Ever seen Michael Moore's movie "Sicko?" man that p*ssed me off (not Michael Moore, but the message of the movie)

Here's a respone I got from a customer service rep. Response (Greg Anderson) - 06/12/2008 01:13 PM Dear Melissa Rivas, Thank you very much for contacting VPI Pet Insurance. Our insurance not only offers coverage for dogs and cats, but various birds, amphibians, reptiles, and exotic pets - including ferrets. While VPI policies cover thousands of medical conditions related to accidents and illnesses (including cancer), we also have some exclusions to help keep premiums low. For ferrets, the diagnosis, medical management, or surgical correction of any endocrine tumors, both benign and malignant, or endocrine hyperplasias of any kind are excluded from policy coverage. With VPI Pet Insurance, policyholders can take their pets to any licensed veterinarian. Our policy contract is with you and not your veterinarian. We do not have any doctor networks, preferred providers or agreements with veterinarians. Please contact our Enrollment/Sales Department at 800-872-7387 for more detailed assistance. Thank you for your interest in VPI Pet Insurance. Auto-Response - 06/09/2008 07:51 PM Your question has not been submitted yet!
