I recently brought my little girl to a holistic/integrative vet that works with ferrets - he's well-recognized in the holistic/integratie vet community.... He's a VERY STRONG advocate of taurine supplements, regardless of what type of meat you feed. Meat that has been processed in any way loses taurine.
Since it's just about impossible to feed too much taurine, and since taurine is so fragile, my vet feels that taurine supplements are essential for optimal health.

Can you recommend any certain brands or where to find them?

I decided that until I start breeding my own mice that I want to be on the safe side and supplement with taurine. I bought some 1000 mg capsules. The 500 mg capsules all had rice flour in them and I didn't like that so I went with the higher one that didn't have anything like that in it. How much should I sprinkle on their food? As you said, you can't overdose them, but I want to make sure they get enough.

Hi, I have 4 ferrets. I mix the contents of one 500 mg capsule into their raw food daily. I've been doing this for 4 years, and vets always comment on their strong hearts.
Yes, my capsules cotain the rice bran or whatever that is, but it's such a small amount that I figure the taurine is better for them than the amount of junk is bad for them.

To answer Jessica's question, I've just been using the Whole Foods brand. There are probably better sources out there, but they'd probably have to be mail-ordered unless you have really good supplements store near by.
