Hellu! I'm Zab and I bought my first ferret .. uhm.. 5 days ago! He's 3 months old, his last owner bought him but decided she couldn't keep him.. so I got him from her His name's Carnivor (yeah, I have great imagination Spetsnos. Spetsnos means pointy-nose in swedish, I thought his nose was a bit pointier than expected, so Oh, and yes, we live in Sweden. I joined mostly to see how ferrets live in other places and to share experiences and so on.

Thanks! It's interesting how you still keep them in cages like you do.. not quite like you'd keep a cat, but not like you'd keep a rat or a bunny either.. More like something in between..

Believe me, if I didn't have to cage them during the day- I wouldn't! I would, however, still cage them at night. The idea of a house fire, and trying to find 8 tiny, scared fuzzies terrifies me!

Hi and welcome to the forum I love your little fellow, he's adorable. My guys are only caged for a short time during the night, the rest of the time my little furmonsters have free roam of the house Please feel free to read through the various posts, ask questions, enter into discussions...everyone here is friendly and really enjoy their furbabies. Have a good time, I hope that I will see you and Carnivor around the forum ciao

We had it like that (ferrets being half like cage animals, half like cats) some 10-15 years ago if I'm not mistaken Then that law about the 'cage' has to be minimum 5 m2 went through and kinda stopped that. Also stopped most pet shops from having ferrets (I think there might be a handful in entire Sweden that still does) so pople just buy from breeders now. Which has triggered the price I imagine.. what does a little furball cost over there? So now most people keep them like cats and has to expect a lot of extra cleaning from the start..Carni's really good tho, I'm happy every morning I wake up and seee that I only have litterboxes to clean.. It's a rather huge minimum area for such a small animal in comparision to what we usually have.. a 10 feet snake has only about a fifth of that are, and a bunny has much less than that, so.. Unfortunatly, the ferrets that needs it the most arn't concerned by the law. Farmers usually get permission to keep them way smaller and on net floors.. why I don't know. They if anyone would need to follow the law for the wellfare of the animals! >(

Hello there Zabbio! Carnivor is an extremely adorable ferret, I love his coloring.
I'm amazed that you actually have a law like that in Sweden! That would be, if I'm calculating correctly, an area of 15-square-feet! That is truly amazing, and it's a lot of room for the fuzzies to runa round in.
Right now, in my area, I've seen ferrets in pet stores costing $99 (on sale) all the way to $189. I'm not sure how much ferrets from private breeders cost (I've only bought one ferret in my life, the rest were adopted), but I'm sure that the ferrets you get from them are well worth the asking price.
I just wanted to ask, how much does Carnivor weigh? He looks like a big guy, haha, and he's got beautiful fur.

You should visit up here, ferrets cost around $300...you can pick them up occasionally on sale for $250 but the normal price here is $290 and up. That's why it surprises me why people buy them on a whim That's just a bit of expense....your looking with cage and a few accessories to drop...oh....about $1000. That's why if the rescue business ever crashes (yah right ) I'm going south and buying me a breeders ferret....or maybe two . Oh, well I can dream and until then I will just hug my little homeless souls and live vicariously through the rest of you ciao

Thanks No I havn't meassured his weight, I don't have any scale..hmm.. They usually cost 300-400usd here I got him, and that huge cage (that's not really used and way below the minimi size, but still pretty big) for about 150usd, with a few toys His previous owner bought him and decided he wasn't thre pet for her.. Yeah, it's a lot of space

This may sound like a weird question but is your little furbaby altered or is he a hob. Over here we don't get the option unless it's a breeders ferret....ferrets are sold altered and we pay for this later with health issues related to the early spay and neuter. ciao

I'm not quite sure what you mean.. but he's all natural I'll neuter him when he's 6-7 months

That's what I meant. I've only had one hob turned in, he was about 5 yrs old, what a snuggler. Unfortunately, he was also in full rut and was a little .....overwhelming ciao

hehehe.. what I know it's not very good to have a no-spayed female tho..I learnt they can actually die if they don't get to mate or get hormones to get out of the heat,.. :S So I didn't dare getting one in case she grew up before spaying time x)
