Ok, so maybe this is TMI for some people but figured I'd share since so many women have this problem. Ever since I was young I've been having reproductive problems. At first, I was only getting 9 cycles a year. We didn't think that was too much of an issue. Fast foreward a few years. Now I've just graduated highschool. Suddenly I'm gaining weight. I was 135lbs in highschool, but by the end of my freshman year in college, I'm 170lbs. So I go to the doctor since my cycles have slowed to only 6 a year, sometimes less. Doctors find a cyst on my ovary. Small and not much to worry about it. They diagnose me with PCOS. I go on with life. Then my husband and I start talking about starting a family so I go to see my gyno. At this point I'm not having cycles AT ALL!. Over the past year (beginning in August) I've only had two and those were caused by me taking progesterone pills that force your body to have a cycle. So a few weeks ago I make another trip to the gyno since I'm still not having cycles on my own.
My gyno immediatly says, "Lets check that cyst of yours" So they give me a little ultrasound and the woman doing it finds a blob! I ask her "What is that" Her response. "I don't know" So she takes the images and measurements to the doctor and she comes back and says "Well....you have a tumor on your right ovary. Its half cyst, half tumor and it is 6cm in diameter. That is the size of a small baseball. We need to remove it as soon as possible."
So now as soon as my insurance kicks in, in September, I'm going to get another ultrasound and then they are scheduling me for surgery to remove the entire ovary. She said my left ovary looks completely normal and that I might gain my cycles back. Then it should be no problem to get pregnant. So wish me luck everyone, with both the surgery and the getting pregnant part. Surgery will most likely be next month. The biggest surgery I've had (that I can remember) was getting my wisdom teeth pulled, so this is a big thing for me.
But ladies! If you ever know something is not right, don't wait! Go to your doctor! I waited years before having my cyst checked on and it grew into a baseball sized tumor!
