Hey guys, I have not been here in a while. Hope all is well. I just have one question. It seems in the past few months (6 months) Thomas does not seem to put on weight as well as Skunkers does. I feed them raw at dinner time and the rest of the day they have EVO kibble because Skunkers cannot be without food because of his supposed Insulinoma. So they are free to eat it while I am at work. So my question is, Is there anything I can add to their raw meat that would fatten him up? Skunkers does not look as if he needs to gain weight from being on Prednisone, which I stopped giving him two moths ago and he has been fine. Or should I feed them the raw meat in the morning too? I usually feed them a patty of Primal Turkey or chicken and sometimes Natures Logic patties.

If Thomas is playimg , pooing and acting normal I would not be concerned about his wieght Ferrets are great at maintaining the wieght they need. Although I would sugest to feed them raw in the morning to if you can the less kibble they eat the better If you are concerned about his wieght you can give him some heavy cream mixed in with whole raw egg or plain a few times a week it will fatten him up some , a few licks of unsalted lard will also work.

I've heard that heavy cream works....I didn't have much success with it as my guy was actually sensitive to it It then had the opposite effect and it took me a couple of weeks to settle his tummy so be careful. Only little amounts. Also take a look at how much fat is actually in the meat that you're feeding. Feeding some high fat meats like lamb, duck, goose...will put on weight. Making sure that your chicken has the skin and that layer of fat, if your guys will eat it the chicken tail will also work very well to put on weight. Truth....unless your guy is really skinny and underweight, Frank is right....ferrets are very good at maintaining a weight that is suitable to them, though I think some of my guys are really overweight ciao

Another thing that will put on the weight is KMR(kitten replace milk). If your vet thinks he is really underweight, that will help. You could also use freeze dried raw in place of the kibbles for your insulinomic ferret, if you want. That way, they are getting all raw.

I wish I could afford the freeze dried food. They love it. The only one we sell at my work is the Wysong one and the bags are so small it would only last me a few days. Do any other brands sell it in larger amounts and cheaper?? I have not taken him to the vet for being skinny because he is fine otherwise. He is not sick skinny with his ribs showing. I should try the lamb. My boys will still not eat whole meats.

Stella and Chewy's is one you could look at. AFS as well. They do have a bit more veg. matter than Wysong's, but not enough to concern me.
