I really really want to switch my kids to raw. The ferrets are 100% raw now and I'm slowly increasing the amount they eat. (I had two that were a little on the thin side as they would only eat a small bit every meal. Now they are eating a lot more and gaining weight. ) The cats and the dog though are on kibble, and not the greatest kibble either. At least for now, we don't have rent and other than paying off hubby's overdue credit cards, we have no real large amount of money we need to be putting out. That leaves us with some extra money to use. Right now we are budgeting $280 for animal food and supplies every month. This covers food for the dog (kibble and wet food) at $30. Cats with kibble and wet food at $40. And so on and so forth. the most expensive is the snakes at $120 a month. This I hope to bring down by breeding my own mice. So here is the question(s) I have. My dog weighs 10lbs. Tyran (cat) weighs 9lbs. Liam (cat) weighs 9lbs. Miki (cat) weighs 6lbs. Ramman (our biggest cat) weighs 13lbs. How much, in terms of whole prey, would each animal need to eat in a day. This includes rabbit, rat, mice, chicken, ect. How much of each kind of whole prey would each animal require to make a meal? This will help me figure out how much I need to buy per animal and I can figure out my monthly cost. So lets say my animals were only eating whole prey. They would need at least three kinds, right?

Not sure about the amount in prey, but I know with cats, once they are switched to raw, they'll average about 3-5% of their body weight daily. The people at rawcat and rawdog might be able to give you a better idea pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawcat/

What about ferrets? What should they be getting as far as amount of food. I just checked how many oz my dog should be eating per day and he weighs 10lbs. The site said he should be eating 4-5oz per day, with 2-2.5oz per meal. This is to maintain his current weight.
Now, a ferret is so much smaller. My biggest is somewhere between 2-3 lbs, my smallest, around 1lb.

Same sort of apllies for ferrets, 2-7% of the body weight.

My 10lb cat eats about 4 oz of raw per day. My 2lb ferrets eat about 2-3 oz of raw per day each. A ferrets metabolism is faster than a dog or cat's.
