Okay, so I'm ordering off of Rodentpro and I can't order anything under 100, which is kind of a bummer because I seriously doubt I need 100 orders of these mice. >< But, I was wondering, If it will pay off if I order Large Pinkies, Fuzzies and Hoppers all at the same time right now. This is Stewart's first mice, So I'll need all these to get him used to the fur and such. I know this will last me like months and months and months, and I'll even have some left over to feed my new baby girl, whom I'm getting in June. I guess I was just wondering if this will all pay off, and I'm pretty sure this is a normal price range, 'Cause alot of you get your mice and rats from this site.
Also, How long do you think all these mice will last?
100 Large Pinkies 100 Fuzzies 100 Hoppers
Shipping Method: UPS
Sub Total $45.00 S&H: $36.95*
Total: $81.95
I'll probably have more question as you all start replying, Because I'm new to the whole ordering mice and everything, So I need ALL the info and advice I can get so I'm serious just throw it all at me! Thanks in advance! :3

I just ordered 100 weanlings, 50 lg adults, and 20 medium rats and I'm expecting that to last between 4-6 months depending on how often I give whole prey to my cats.
I'm thinking that you won't need to order again for a long time.

Wow. Yeah, Your right, Haah, This will last a life time, Lol. I'm hoping that Stewart eats the live mouse I'm going to give to him, and then I can skip the pinkie stage and get right to the good stuff. That'll save me money. Is it that you can only order a count of 50 with the adults?

How often do you think you'll be wanting to feed mice? You could feed them as often as every other day, or even daily... so long as you also provide at least 2 other types of meat during the week. With mice this small, I believe you'll need several to make up a meal for him... you could possibly go through as many as 30-40 mice per week depending on how much of his diet you want to come from mice. (whereas this would be more like 4-6 if you went with adult mice)
Before investing quite so much money in a rodent pro order, I would first get a small selection of frozen mice of various sizes from a local pet shop (up to adults) to try him on. You really don't want to have spent so much only to find that A) he loves mice and will eat the bigger adults, thus you could have saved money by not ordering so many small mice... or B) he absolutely hates thawed frozen mice and refuses to eat them at all.

The large adults come in bags of 50 rather than 100. I ordered 1 bag of weanlings, 1 bag of adults, and 1 bag of rats (for the cats and for days that Ozzy is especially piggy).
I agree with bluedove about trying out frozen mice from the store before making such a large investment. If it ends up that Stewart won't eat mice you'll have to resell them at a major loss.
Also, I started Ozzy out on medium adult mice even though he's only 8 weeks old and it was no issue for him. Unless you have a specific reason for wanting to give him smaller prey, I would say go for the larger stuff since it'll last longer.

Well, Your right. Our petstore doesn't sell frozen mice, though. They do sell feeder mice though, So tomorrow, [Since it's closed today] I'll get him a live mouse. Then put them both in the tub and see what happens. If he eats it, then GREAT I can order the frozen mice bigger and save more money.
But if he doesn't, Then I give the poor mouse to my cat and maybe when he kills it, Should I give it to Stewart all.. Like. Cut up? So he knows there's meat under there? Or.. Wouldn't I have to start off with pinkies? To slowly switch him to the bigger, more furrier mice? That's how I thought it anyway, But maybe there is an easier way.
I plan to give him mice on what is now Organ Days. So, Two times a week he would get mice, I don't know how many though, But I'd figure it out as I fed him his diet. :]

If he isnt eating any whole prey and hasnt had whole prey before, its best to kill the mouse before feeding it to him. I would just make an icision to the guts in the mouses belly if he doesnt go straight to it, you preferably want him to be biting through skin/fur so he learns that fur = food.

Yeeaahh, I might have to... Well, I'll just ask Daddy to do that. Then I'll give it to him and I'm pretty sure he'd eat it, I don't really know for sure, But I don't think he's real picky. x3 (Says with hope, Lol)

Hey guys I know I am late on this thread but Just a reminder variety of ages is a good thing fuzzie's and hoppers also give differnt nutrients . although adult mice should be a higher percentage of feeding you should still feed younger prey to properly balance out all nutritien . as well as give a better variety for them. for the first time instead of ordering a large order the best thing would be to find a local pet store and purchase a live fuzzy and put him in the tub and let your ferts instinks take over and give him enrichment going after the kill , then move up to a hopper a few times , then to a adult a few times . If he dont eat it the first time dont get discuraged it mite take a little time for him to realise its food .. if you cant do live then try and find a local store or breeder who will let you buy in a small quanity to teach with... once he is eating whole prey then its great to buy bulk orders knowing it wont go to waste

Thanks suds! I didn't think the diff. ages would have different nutrients. So, Maybe I'll get some fuzzies and hoppers wth the rest of the order. I'm also going to get chicks, rabbit, quail and rats. I can't wait, Lol. x3 It's true buyig food for Colbert is as fun as getting toys for him. Stewart ate his first mouse awhile ago. It was live and he went straight for it. It was so awesome, Lol. So, He knows that mice are food and he'd eat 'em. So, I know that they wont go to waste. Thanks again!
