The only thing that comes to mind is the difference in the smell of the food. I mean... stick your nose in a bag of kibble... Phew! But fresh raw meat has virtually no smell.

To be honest, I don't miss it. I like the smell but everyone complains about it so I'm happy that it's gone.. Right now Lakota still smells like it and my parents complain, but her smell it already getting lighter.

Its really a combination of things.. Nutrients missing from the diet, unnecessary things in the diet, etc, etc.. It is like when a person is on an improper diet... They will have poor skin, they will be greasy, they will stink much worse, they will have bad teeth.
But it was one of the most rewarding things ever when Weezer saw his used-to-be-"momma" for the first time since I got him. They bathed him every other day because he stunk and they fed him Wal-Mart ferret food and Marshalls.. Well when she saw him after I'd had him for awhile I said for her to smell him, she burried her nose in his fur and her response? She said "Nothing!".. He doesn't smell like anything anymore!
Ever smelled ferret tails?! If not, try it.. Tell me what you think.

Think about it, it may smell like urine but think again.. It smells like grape soda too.
It's just another mystery of the weasel.

Urine?? Your ferret must be an oddball. Ferret tails smell like grape. I think it has something to do with being on a good diet, I could be wrong.. Ferrets on bad diets smell like.. Ferrets.. And when ferrets are on a good diet their tails take on a sweet grapey smell. At least IMO.. I've never smelled grape tail on ferrets who eat icky diets.
