I just wanted to share with everyone that I got hired at the local Wildlife Care Center today (technically, they're still waiting for my background check to come through, but my first day is scheduled for Thursday). It's a seasonal position in the nursery - they need help taking care of the orphaned wildlife, and apparently there are a LOT this year. I'm rally looking forward to it - though I have to be careful not to get too friendly with them

That sounds so great! I would totally get too attached, but I bet you learn how to deal with it pretty quickly.

I do have a tendency to get attached, but with who knows how many birds in the nursery, you really don't have any time. I had my 2nd training day today, and aside from an hour lunch break, there's really no let-up. The birds in the incubator have to be fed every 30 minutes, and the birds in the walk-in heated room AND the caged birds have to be fed every hour. The range is from week-old babies to juveniles who just need to gain some weight before they're moved out into the habitat area. It's really cool, though, in spite of the knots in my shoulders and my exhaustion. Baby bird season is just starting to pick up around here, so right now we have roughly 15-20 babies in the incubator alone
