You were asleep in your cage when we first met at the shelter. You're in your favourite sleeping pose: belly up and sprawl out in your bed. You're the biggest, cutest ferret. Your shelter mom said your name's Ronnie, for Ronald Weasley Weasel. She woke you up and you came out to play with us. You put your front paws on my lap and looked at me with those dark eyes. I was in love. We took you and your shelter brothers Tassy and Gadget home to meet your new fursiblings Merry and Taffy.
We weren't sure what to name you. I kept looking at your face and could not believe how much you look like a miniature polar bear - big solid shoulder, big round head, fuzzy paws. And then your dad said, "Let's call him Ursus, like a bear". That gave me an idea "No, let's call him Ursus Polaris, or just Polaris - A polar bear". And you're our Poley Bear ever since.
Poley's always happy to see us. He dooks up and down the hallway when we let him out of the cage after work, like he's saying "welcome home". Then he'd do his rounds with the litter boxes around the house - step in, step out. Making sure everything is to his satisfaction. We call him our Tiny Tank, coz you can feel his solid thumping footsteps when he's charging down the hallway like a one ferret stampede. He's our Spider-fert coz he likes to climb upside down along the bars on the bottom shelf of his cage. He loves to run through tunnels. And as he grew bigger, he couldn't fit through the regulation 4" dryer tubes anymore. He was over the moon when we found him jumbo 6" ones. He enjoys digging in the rice box, as long as we give his heavy bum a boost to get iin. He loves to play in plastic bags and padded envelopes. More than once we saw him running around with a grocery bag looped around his belly, prompting us to cut all the handles off the grocery bags in the house.
He's never a big fan of the raw diet until we started putting cream in his ground chicken. His big, long "Gene Simmons" tongue was flicking cream all over his head and face. But his favourite treat is still T/D kibbles, so much he's willing to risk life and paw to steal them out of the cats' bowls. He was in love with our little girl Taffy. All he wanted to do was to groom her and snuggle with her. But the big boy came on too strong and scared tiny little Taffy. He was sad when she passed away. He's best buddy with Merry. They're always snuggled up in their bed and there's almost always a spit spot on Merry's head somewhere from Poley's grooming.
Poley has been plagued by adrenal disease the whole time he was in our family. First his left gland, then his right. Through all the treatments his spirits were always high. Unfortunately the stress on his little body was just way to much and it finally caught up with him. We helped him over to the Rainbow Bridge on the early hours of April 6, where he would meet up with his furbrother and sisters, Pippin, Sally, Taffy and Tess. With his thick, glorious white fur and dark glistening eyes, looking like a true mini polar bear. Playing and laughing his heart out with his siblings. Make new fuzzie friends, love, play and know that there's no more pain and suffering.
We love you and miss you always, Poley. Until the day we meet again on the other side, take care of your siblings. We're thinking of you all.
