YAY!! i work at Jo~Ann fabrics!! it's great there.... but anyway... the 5 ferret things i can't live without are....
1. Definately the FN142!!! it's pretty self explanitory...
2. A Very DEEP washing basin... tubs and sinks don't work for me, they leap right out...
3. Bunches and bunches of old shirts, bed sheets, sweaters, and blankets for the kids to romp in... i even use my good shirts if their stuff is in the wash... sacrifices sacrifices.
4. Clorox Bleach, Wipes, Spray....anything i can clean the cage with, when they are far away of course...
5. Big plastic storage containers with lots of drawers... to keep all the goodies in... which is also ferret proof.
WOO HOO!

1. Mr. Clean wipes/Clorox wipes(wiping down the litter box once all the poop and pee is cleaned out) 2.Cutting board,Knife, and plastic baggies 3.Clorox anywhere spray 4.Walmart bags(litter disposal) 5.Dust pan and brush combo My cage is pretty easy to clean. I'll be deepcleaning it and rearraging shelves maybe every two-three weeks. Bedding gets switched out once a week. Litter box gets scooped and wiped down twice a day along with the shelves being cleaned once a day. Litter box then gets a thorough clean(all new litter) once a week. Its already been a week that I've had my babies!

Ok, off the top of my head my #1 thing that hasn't already been listed is #1. Ferretone!! I know it's not natural, but I equate that to eating some candy once a week or something for us ;D Anyhoo, there is no way I would ever do nail cuttings without my ferret crack - I've done it, not fun! I little bit of 'tone and I'm pretty sure I could cut a leg off without them caring!! LOL They like Cod Liver Oil just as well, it is cheaper and much healthier

1. Yesterday's News Litter - I have tried everything else but always go back to YN. Years ago I used regular cat litter and couldn't understand why anyone would pay so much for litter. Then I decided to try it, just to see when I got a coupon for it. I have used it ever since with the exception of a month here and there of trying other stuff. Nothing I have tried absorbs like YN, is as clean as YN or works as good as YN. I wish it did because wood stove pellets or Woody Pet is less then half the price! I have been known to say that I spend more per pound on stuff for my ferrets to poop on than many people spend on their pet's food. 2. Old clothes, blankets, sheets - I have a big rubbermaid container full of this stuff for ferret bedding. 3. Cardboard boxes - the best litter and sleeping boxes because when they get dirty you can just throw them out. I use the boxes my bulk chicken comes in for nest boxes and the lids for litter boxes. 4. Drainage tubes - I have quite a few of these cut to 8' lengths, some connected to others, some not. They are great ferret tunnels because they are sturdy, washable, ribbed for good climbing traction and ferrets love the darkness of them. I have tried the pricey ferret tunnels but it doesn't take long before the ferrets start putting holes in them. 5. www.dog.com/item/midwest-small-animal-ex-pen/ - can't leave this out, since it is one of the most useful pet purchases I've made. I picked on up at a dog show and have used it for most of the animals at some point. I bought it for the skunk but he outgrew it (and figured out how to escape it). After that I used it to divide the ferret room when needed. Nigel spent the first couple months I had him living in it until he was old enough for the ferret room. O'Possom did as well. The kits used it as a play pen. The ferrets sometimes are outside in it it when I am watching them. I have used it for numerous puppies. Have taken it to dog shows and have used it to confine dogs in the hotel rooms. We currently use it as a room divider when we want for whatever reason to block the dogs in one part of the room. It was so useful we got another one to divide the kitchen and living room and keep muddy dogs off the couch when they come inside. Now I'll need a third to use as a pen again. Of course raw food would be on the list but I figure everyone here already knows that

Right now I'm using critter litter and a recycled newspaper cat litter which I'm not to fond of the smell already. Its not over powering, but its there..like wet paper Since my cage is in direct traffic of the house I want people to say "wow is there ferrets living in here?"

You ground your ziwipeak? I'll have to try that, because my kids won't eat it. *drat* I'll have to run off to the thrift store and see if there is a coffee grinder I can get for cheap and grind up the ziwipeak. (does buying a coffee grinder for the food break my husband's rule that I can't buy any more ferret stuff?) You can always just put it into a ziplock baggie and bash the crap out of it with a rolling pin or use the flat side of a meat tenderizer like i did. Works great i mix it with my girls nupro gravy.
